Pay Range: $16.95-$24.69 per hour
Basic Job Function and Responsibilities
To assist with selected patient care activities under the supervision of an RN, and to provide clerical and receptionist support to nursing unit staff.
- Answers inquiries, and provides assistance to the nursing personnel, medical staff, patients and visitors.
- Assists with patient care activities and implementation of nursing care plan as directed by the RN. Recognizes and reports condition changes to the nurse.
- Checks and restocks patient care areas and unit supplies as needed.
- Coordinates nursing unit and interdepartmental communications utilizing patient intercom, pneumatic tube, messenger service, telephone system and computer.
- Enters patient charges in the computer.
- Maintains a clean and neat environment in the patient care area.
- Performs blood glucose meter and quality control checks per unit policy.
- Prepares and maintains patient record information.
- Processes admissions, transfers, discharges and deaths.
- Provides orientation and training of unit clerks and nursing personnel.
- Provides selected patient care activities under RN supervision such as, bathing, feeding, assistance with other activities of daily living. May document vital signs and selected care activities.
- Transcribes and accurately enters physician's orders and procedures in the computer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
Experience
- One year experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital setting, Nurse Assistant certification, or equivalent experience and education from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired - required
- Typing ability of 30 words per minute, preferred
Certifications, Licensures & Registrations
- BLS proficiency required within 6 months of hire
- Nurse Technicians hired for Hospice must be Certified Nurse Assistants registered with the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry
