Position Summary POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nursing Department of Green River College (GRC) seeks candidates for a tenure-track position who are passionate about teaching, learning, and student success, and who are committed to the service and equity mission of community colleges. As an open-access institution, Green River is deeply dedicated to helping students from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds to achieve their educational goals. We seek candidates with the same dedication to our mission. This is a full-time position and reports to the Associate Dean of Nursing. Though the Full-Time Faculty contract is nine-months, our nursing programs run year-round, so we also plan to offer the person selected for this position work in the nursing programs during the summer.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
The student body at Green River College is made up of approximately 34% Academic Transfer students, 30% Professional-Technical, 11% Adult Basic Education, 25% Continuing & Community Education. In addition, there are eight bachelor of applied science and one bachelor of science in nursing four-year degrees offered. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English as a second language, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Hispanic, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Green River College is committed to enhancing and supporting a diverse campus environment, incorporating principles of equity in order to promote inclusive practices. Diversity is understood in terms of intersectional identities defined by culture, race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexual orientation, social class, disability, religion, veteran status, immigration status, and age. Given the diversity of our student population and service areas, we encourage applications from faculty, staff, and administrators with demonstrated experience and expertise in supporting, sustaining and serving people from a wide range of backgrounds and collaborating effectively with others.
DEPARTMENT STATEMENT
The mission of the Green River College Nursing Department is to provide quality education to prepare students as safe, competent practitioners within our diverse healthcare community. Graduates of the Green River College Nursing Program will be qualified candidates for the successful completion of the NCLEX and prepared for advancement in continuing healthcare education. The department has embedded following values in its curriculum: community engagement, diversity and inclusion, integrity, excellence, innovation, caring, and student success. We seek faculty experienced in developing innovative course content and delivering instructional practices, as well as those experienced in delivering supportive services for diverse populations and in communicating issues and concerns faced by racially minoritized students. Position Responsibilities
  • Designing and teaching in nursing courses including theory course, labs, and clinical sessions in a manner that promotes student excellence;
  • Creating course assessments and evaluations, assessing data, and engaging in continuous improvement of courses based on that analysis in order to advance student achievement of outcomes, success in subsequent courses, and impact on retention, graduation, and successful transition to employment or further education;
  • Maintain classroom environment and teaching philosophy that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • Continuously innovating inclusive pedagogy and active learning experiences (campus, online, hybrid) in response to assessment and evidence/data analysis;
  • Advocate for integration of diversity, pluralism, social justice and inclusion into teaching and learning;
  • Demonstrating cultural humility and intercultural engagement, including an awareness and understanding of historically marginalized populations, and the creation of an educational environment that affirms the identities and communications of students of color;

  • Contributing to a collaborative and innovative department, division, and institution;
  • Teaching, advising, and mentoring students holistically from recruitment to completion and transition to employment or further education;
  • Engaging in shared governance including campus-wide efforts to build an antiracist institution focused on action to advance access, retention, and success for our most marginalized and vulnerable students and employees;
  • Collaboration with I-Best program and faculty to provide responsive, student-centered education and scheduling;
  • Program applications review and admissions in partnership with the Career and Advising Center and the Office of the Registrar;
  • Participation in department, division, campus committees, and other activities as needed;
  • Monitor and adhere to all state WACs and guidelines that relate to all nursing programs;
  • In addition, professional technical instructional faculty in the Nursing Program are expected to participate in activities required by the Program's accreditation from the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission and the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA). Other activities may include collaborating with other program faculty to assure that accreditation standards are met for didactic and clinical education.
