Program Description:

Our sexual and reproductive health centers, located in Fort Greene and Brownsville, provide affordable, comprehensive, and confidential reproductive and sexual healthcare to more than 2,500 people, including adolescents each year. We offer a complete range of services, including free walk-in pregnancy testing, gynecological exams, preconception care, prenatal care, birth control, emergency contraception, medication abortion, sexual and reproductive healthcare for all genders, teens’ sexual healthcare, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing and counseling, mental health services, and health education.

Summary of Position:

We are seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to provide the full scope of sexual and reproductive healthcare at PHS. The Nurse Practitioner is an integral part of the PHS provider group responsible for caring for patients seeking obstetrical and gynecological services at PHS. The Nurse Practitioner has their own panel of patients for whom the clinician provides prenatal, post-partum, gynecological, family planning services and medication abortion services at PHS and works to ensure continuity of care for all PHS prenatal patients when they deliver at the partner hospital.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide sexual and reproductive health care services to adolescents and adults following evidence-based guidelines.
  • Provide medication abortion services to ensure safe termination of pregnancy for PHS patients who opt for this service.
  • Order, conduct, supervise, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacologic therapies, including discussing the potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
  • Provide relevant health instruction in a patient-centered manner including family planning, routine preventive care and sexual and reproductive health.
  • Provide culturally competent and patient-centered information and access to a comprehensive range of contraceptive methods, including proficiency in IUD insertions/removals and Nexplanon insertions/removals.
  • Conduct screening for a range of issues, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer and sexual transmitted infections.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Record complete, timely and legible medical records.
  • Participate in quality assurance/ improvement activities, including Medicaid Meaningful Use measures, Patient-Centered Specialty Practice, the New York State Family Planning Program, Title X and abortion access initiatives.
  • Capacity to manage multiple prenatal care patients with a wide range conditions through pregnancy.
  • Provide guidance on lactation support efforts at all centers.
  • Ability to support quality assurance efforts around post-partum care.
  • Educate prenatal patients on birth options, positive strategies and unique health issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Nurse Practitioner degree from an accredited healthcare institution
  • Current NYS Professional License and/or Certification
  • Preferred a minimum of 4 years of clinical experience post-graduation
  • Ability to work effectively with adolescent patients
  • Ability and willingness to support prenatal/postpartum care services
  • Ability and willingness to support medication abortion services
  • Ability and willingness to manage 3 patients per hour
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills to work with diverse staff members and patients
  • Salary: $128,000.00- $133,000.00.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Credentialed with Medicaid and/or Medicare
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate
  • Proficiency in eClinicalWorks
  • Experience providing sexual and reproductive healthcare in a clinical setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports directly to the Medical Director.

This position works collaboratively with the Center Director and Director of Sexual and Reproductive Health Centers.
