Description:
Nassau BOCES Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs is seeking a .5 FTE New York State certified Nurse Assisting teacher for the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Educational Center or one of its satellite in-district locations. The candidate will teach Nurse Assisting to high school students. Duties will include the preparation of course outlines, detailed lesson plans and extensive hands-on instruction to prepare students for college or a career as a certified nursing assistant. Topics covered by the teacher include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, nutrition and fluids, growth and development, geriatrics, CPR, first aid, common health topics, 21st century healthcare, and hearing, speech, and vision topics. Students will be prepared to take the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) exam at the end of the two-year program. Technology will need to be used as part of instruction to maintain an online presence and to enhance the educational setting.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Manage a classroom environment appropriately and be responsible for meeting each learner's individual needs
- Evaluate and assess each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills as part of record keeping responsibilities
- Incorporate nursing assistant skills and processes into classroom and clinical lessons
- Supervise students in a clinical rotation at hospitals/nursing homes
- Communicate with local health care facilities to provide clinical experiences for students
- Maintain inventory of classroom supplies, and abide by re-ordering policies and procedures
- Stay informed of innovations and job requirements in the industry that must be reflected in the curriculum to develop marketable skills as required by prospective employers
Requirements:
- NYSED Certification - Nurse's Assisting (7-12) is required
- NYS Registered Nurse (RN) and a strong background in 21st century healthcare is required
- 5 or more years of practical experience in a long-term care facility, hospital, or health care facility or a certified Nurse's Assisting Teacher with at least 3 years of teaching experience is required

As per labor contract.
