Seabrook Station is located on 900 acres on the seacoast of southern New Hampshire. The plant is operated in a highly-responsible manner and is dedicated to protecting the environment while meeting the energy needs of New England. Job Overview
The principal responsibilities of the Nuclear Systems Operator (NSO) consist of performing surveillance's, and operating, maintaining, and testing equipment, components and systems associated with a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) nuclear generating facility. The NSO must operate plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner and in strict compliance with applicable station licensed operating and emergency procedures, instructions and safety rules and regulations. The NSO performs under the direction of the Unit Supervisor and/or Control Room Operator and must keep them informed of any abnormal or changing plant conditions. Additional responsibilities include performing switching and tagging, being a member of the Seabrook Station Emergency Response Organization, and fire brigade. The NSO performs these duties while on a rotating shift schedule and maintains work station until properly relieved.
This position has physical requirements for tasks such as operation of valves and other equipment, use of protective respiratory and self-contained breathing apparatus and firefighting.
The NSO participates in a six-month, classroom setting, non-licensed operator training program upon initial hire. Successful completion of this program is required.
Position assumes a special assignment during refueling outages and an emergency preparedness role. The position requires that within 6-12 months from hire date, the employee assumes an Emergency Response Team position. Accordingly, once the employee assumes the Emergency Response Team position, they are required to report for duty at the assigned emergency station within 50 minutes of the site's emergency activation.
Required Qualification
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a Bachelor of Science in a related technical area, or completion of Navy Nuclear Power School, or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) aptitude test required.
Preferred Qualification
• Zero to two years of experience with power generation equipment preferred.
• Relevant college internships preferred, but not necessary for those graduating from school with no prior experience or for those who completed Navy Nuclear Power School.
Job Overview
Operates, maintains, inspects, and tests the equipment associated with the secondary side of a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) generating facility. Assists the operation and testing of primary side systems and components. Trains and develops proficiency in the primary systems of the station.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs these duties while on a rotating shift schedule, as directed by the Control Room, and maintains work station until properly relieved
  • Performs work as assigned in areas of Radiation Protection and Chemistry
  • Maintains equipment and areas clean and free from hazards
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment such as adding oil or grease, adjusting packing, changing filters, etc.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as a Fire Brigade member during fire emergencies under the direction of the Fire Brigade Leader
  • Successfully completes the Fire Brigade Annual Fire Encounters Agility Test as outlined in and required by the Medical Manual
  • Assists in medical emergencies by responding to scenes with appropriate medical equipment as directed by the Fire Brigade Leader
  • Performs duties as a member of the Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team
  • Provides assistance to the Confined Space Rescue Team as directed by the Fire Brigade Leader
  • Provides assistance to the Technical Rescue Team as directed by the Fire Brigade Leader
  • Maintains a route of access to equipment and spaces, clear of snow or other obstructions when required
  • Reads prints and schematics and performs work, lineups and testing using such documents
  • Acts as responder for the Emergency Response Organization as assigned
  • Maintains qualifications as a VT-2 inspector
  • Recommends termination of any plant activity that could jeopardize personnel, equipment safety, or safe power generation
  • Assists in the development of Operations Department procedures and programs and recommends improvements to such programs and procedures
  • Records necessary information as required by Station procedures and prepares reports and logs as assigned
  • Performs Station switching and tagging in accordance with approved procedures
  • Operates, maintains, inspects and tests the equipment, components, systems and auxiliaries of the second side of nuclear generating station. Assists in the operation and testing of the primary systems assigned. Performs assigned duties in accordance with rules, regulations, procedures and programs
  • Performs routine visual inspection of operating secondary equipment and space, and informs the Control Room of any abnormal conditions detected. Assists with operation of primary systems as assigned
  • Participates in and successfully completes the Station and Operations Department training. Prepares for advancement by continued participation in such programs and qualification on primary side systems
  • Required to be a member of the Seabrook Station Emergency Response Organization (ERO), when assigned, and to adhere to all related requirements specified in the Seabrook Station Radiological Emergency Plan. These requirements include, but are not limited to, maintaining applicable ERO position qualifications, participation in drills and exercises, and responding to an actual emergency (including radiological)
  • Required to participate in major outages, when assigned, by performing a designated outage position, and maintaining required training qualifications. An outage assignment may involve shiftwork and/or working extended hours outside of normal schedule
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
