Cardiac Nuclear Medicine Technologist: Brookhaven Heart

Job Summary:
The Cardiac Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform all cardiac Nuclear Medicine procedures including, but not limited to SPECT and PET/CT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging studies, demonstrate an understanding of the cardiac anatomy through proper patient positioning and technique selection, administer radiopharmaceuticals and apply immobilization and radiation protection devices according to policy and procedure.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· The NMT orders the isotopes, as well as the logging in of all isotopes to be used each day.
· The NMT performs quality control of all equipment. (Dose Calibrator, SPECT and PET Cameras, Well Counter, GM meter, etc.)
· Review test order, indication for study, checks for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with the radiation safety officer if necessary.
· Greets patients, confirms their identification and correctness of the procedure. Explains examination procedure to the patient and family if present.
· Responsible for performing medically prescribed SPECT and PET cardiac procedures; maintaining departmental standards in accordance with Policies and Procedures
· Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) is responsible for high quality image acquisition, processing, and enhancement for the physicians' interpretation.
· Verbally alert on-site Physician on any critical findings on studies prior to patient’s discharge from the facility.
· Assist Nuclear Medicine Director with facility accreditation.
· Will perform QC wipe test, area surveys for possible contamination with radiation isotopes, waste disposal and any other duties assigned by the Radiation Safety Officer
· Maintains the inventory of supplies for the assigned room or workstation, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items. Reports shortages of materials to the supervisor.
· Ensures compliance with rules, regulations and orders of the state New York State Department of Health and including requirements of the administrative code and any conditions specified in the Radioactive Materials License.
· Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations, attends in-service education programs and staff meetings.
· Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with policy and Procedure as well as HIPAA requirements.
· Performs related duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Demonstrates competency in the use of all tools and equipment relative to cardiac SPECT and PET/CT and other office equipment.
· Should be able to perform procedures independently with limited supervision and as a member of a team, in a professional manner within a team-oriented environment.
· Should be ablet to perform IV placement for Nuclear Medicine Studies independently.
Education and Experience:
· Must be a Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine program.
· ARRT (N) certification or NMTCB certification required.
· PET/CT Certification required.
· BLS required.
· A valid license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist issued by the NYSDOH required.
· Familiarity with GE SPECT and Siemens PET/CT Camera desired, but not required.
· 1 year of work experience is preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements:
· · Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Prolonged periods of standing, moving, and reaching, as well as visual acuity
· Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
· Ability to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring patients or objects may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one hundred (100) pounds.

Pay: $43.00 - $60.00 per hour
