Nuclear Medicine Technologist / Overview

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the ordering, preparation, and administration of radiopharmaceutical materials to patients. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist operates gamma equipment or thyroid uptake and probe for the visualization for both the structure and function of major organ systems within the body. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist utilizes knowledge of radiation physics and safety in the preparation, measurement, and administration of isotopes.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
Education/Experience
Minimum Required:
Associate's degree in Applied Science in Nuclear Medicine
Preferred:
Bachelor's of Science degree in Nuclear Medicine.
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
NYS Registry in Nuclear Medicine or eligible
OR
ARRT in Nuclear Medicine or eligible
Work Environment
- All work is performed in the department which consists of many rooms. These rooms are air conditioned as well as heated, areas are occasionally subject to fumes. Delivery of services may also be performed at bedside in different patient care areas. Procedures use radioactive material which is either in gas or liquid form.
