SUMMARY:
The NSIS Lead Sorter is responsible for evaluating carcasses in a fresh pork facility, harvesting over 20,500 animals daily along with assisting NSIS supervisor with management responsibilities.
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 TO WORK AT TRIUMPH FOODS. Triumph Foods only employs individuals who are 18 years of age or older. If you are under 18 your application will not be considered.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes the following:
  • Follow the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Wholesome Meat Act.
  • Adhere to all Company, state, and federal workplace safety and food safety regulations.
  • Responsible for fostering knowledge regarding pathological diseases impacting food safety
  • Required to trim heads, evaluate viscera and carcasses for dressing and pathological defects
  • Interact daily with plant management, employees, and government officials.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in meat science, food science, microbiology, or related discipline along with two (2) years of experience
  • Or an equivalent of five (5) years of experience in the packing plant.
  • Currently or previously held a USDA role

KNOWLEDGE:
Background knowledge of disease processes is helpful but not required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
No licenses or certifications are required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Willing to convey and understand information to and from direct supervisor, NSIS sorters, and USDA FSIS. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as applications, training materials, and procedure manuals. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish/French) are a plus but not required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to obtain counts of carcasses and verify correct number of counts.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to recognize normal and abnormal and assist NSIS supervisor to implement changes as needed.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must hold a valid driver's license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel/hold objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, speak, hear, taste, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb ladders.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to cold/hot and/or humid conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, cold/hot temperatures, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud. The work environment includes climate extremes found in all areas of plant operations. Will work in close proximity to other employees working with knives, cramped spaces, and in poor lighting and ventilation.
