JOB PURPOSE
The mission of Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative is to bring health care professionals, patients, clinicians, caregivers, students, academics, artists,and scholars together, to learn, practice and teach in a Narrative Medicine community. The work of this grassroots organization is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and the intern will work closely with a number of them, including board and committee members. The intern will provide crucial program and organizational support.
PREREQUISITES FOR ELIGIBILITY
  • A demonstrable interest and engagement in the topics of health and healing.
  • An ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those whose stories are undertold in healthcare institutions.
  • A preference for an applicant who has completed Narrative Scribe Training with Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative, attended a community of practice, or other Narrative Medicine event with the organization.
  • A self-directed person with willingness to jump in and try, and the skills and courage to ask questions when they arise.
  • Preference for applicants who are rising Third or Fourth Year students at Lewis & Clark College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Support
    • CollabLAB: Attend monthly meetings: Tuesday, June 4, Thursday, July 11, Tuesday, August 6, 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. PST via Zoom.
    • Write a summary of topics discussed, references shared, synopsis of writing prompts/responses, and take-away points to share with the larger collabLAB community. Send summary to collabLAB facilitator for review within 5 days. Once approved by the facilitator, share out.
    • Community of Practice: third Tuesday of the month, May 21, June, 25, July 16, 6:00-7:30 pm (mostly via Zoom, occasionally in-person in Portland).
    • Provide Zoom support and be available to scribe within the session if requested.
    • Create an IG post to share the experience in the week following the event.
  • Organizational Support
    • Gather and format digital content for website updates, IG posts, monthly newsletter.
    • Google Workspace: Work with NWNMC leadership to set up and execute a functional google workspace.
  • At the conclusion of the internship, share lessons and learnings from the experience back with the LC community, including communicating with incoming Fall NWNMC intern.

SCHEDULE
  • Up to 12 hrs/week for 10 weeks through Summer (mid-May through mid-August)
  • This position is remote, though some events will take place in Portland.
  • Regular weekly schedule is communicated and mutually agreed upon by LC Intern and NWNMC, and flexible when need be.
  • Schedule will include a bi-monthly supervisory meeting with Lewis & Clark's Center for Community and Global Health's Community Engagement Coordinator.

RATE OF PAY
  • Paid hourly minimum wage in accordance with Portland, Oregon metro area rates: $15.45/hr
  • Internship hours will be paid directly through Lewis & Clark College and submitted weekly in Workday for review and approval.
