WOOD-TV, the NBC affiliate Nexstar station in Grand Rapids, Michigan has an immediate opening for a News Photojournalist.
A successful candidate should have at least two years' experience working in television news as a photojournalist and video editor. If you know how to craft a visually cohesive story that engages the audience, this is the job for you. WOOD's reporters and photographers work together as a team. You must be able to bring your own ideas into the conversation to help the reporter to bring the story to life.
If you are assigned a story without a reporter, you must be able to conduct interviews and gather information for the newsroom.
Knowledge of Adobe Premier, Bit Central and ENPS are a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Will be assigned to shoot video of events for stories and news coverage, independently or with an assigned reporter.
- Selects and combines the most effective shots of each scene to form a logical and smoothly running story.
- Trims recorded segments to specified lengths and reassembles segments into sequences that present stories with maximum effect.
- Organizes and strings together raw footage into a continuous whole according to scripts or instructions for newscasts and other programming.
- Reviews assembled footage on screens or monitors to determine whether corrections are necessary and for standards compliance.
- Sets up and operates computer editing and distribution systems, including Adobe Premiere, BitCentral, ENPS and AfterEffects units to produce a final product.
- Confers with other personnel to discuss assignments, work product and desired effects.
- Maintains and cares for assigned equipment including videography, editing and company vehicles.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum two years' experience operating videography and video editing equipment
Requirements & Skills:
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
- Proficiency with digital video cameras and video editing equipment
- May be required to work early mornings or weekends.
- Must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Must be able to lift equipment such as cameras, tripods, lights, etc.
