POSITION SUMMARY:
The Network Security Engineer - Network & Transport Opsrole is to provide technical operations support and maintenance to the Armstrong IP Network. This will include primary support for Network Firewalls and dDoS security appliances in operation today. This will include baseline of existing security devices, and evolving development of new security guidelines and policy, and enforcement of. Also will include knowledge and application of industry best practices to ensure network remains secure.
As part of the Network Operations Team, this position requires hands-on work with equipment, frequent interaction with Engineering, Operations, and System Operations providing support for network projects and timely resolution of technical issues. Maintenance window activity will be required periodically. Some travel will be required within the Armstrong region, approx. 2-3 days per month.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain, configure, and support of Core Security Equipment including Firewalls, Routers, Switches, and extraneous security devices.
- Primary administration of Arbor dDoS mitigation platform and Splunk SIEM platforms
- Apply knowledge of IP and Secure networking principles to the production network platform.
- Maintain equipment inventory, configuration management, and develop and maintain IP network platform documentation and project deployment MOPs for all network initiatives.
- Have fundamental working knowledge of IP network products deployed, and ability to learn new technology as required. These include OSPF, BGP routing, MPLS, Cisco CLI knowledge, Cisco ASA ADSM knowledge.
- Proficient PC skills and working knowledge of MS Office Applications, including Visio, word, excel. Project.
- Must be attentive to detail, well organized, able to maintain and prioritize several projects simultaneously.
- Be self-motivated, with ability to work independently as well as with other Network Operations team members.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to maintain network services and be available after hours for high level support.
- Display strong communication skills to articulate complex problems both verbal and written to management, other departments, and network vendors.
- Make recommendations both technical and procedural striving for improving overall Network Security objectives and departmental efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of Operational and/or Engineering technical industry experience
- Minimum of Bachelor degree or equivalent technical education
- Industry and Vendor specific certifications desirable, including CCNA, CISSP Desirable but not required, Security Certifications experience will be a plus.
