Network Engineer

Remote - Successful candidate must live in a state in which Point Broadband operates (AL, FL, GA, MD, MI, OH, TN, TX, or VA)
Summary:
Point Broadband is looking to hire a Network Engineer. The position will help build and deploy Point Broadband's Core, Metro and Access networks. With a focus on ensuring high reliability, this engineer will design and test new platforms and solutions while also acting as an escalation point for the Point Network Engineering Operations team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

• Responsible for implementing and supporting Point Broadband's access, metro and core networks.
• Responsible for working with internal groups and external partners in the design, acceptance testing, and production implementation for all infrastructure.
• Coordinate with vendors, customers and outside organizations all required Metro and Backbone work efforts
• Prepare written reports and other technical documentation necessary to communicate ideas, concepts, and details necessary to accomplish specific goals
• Analyze chronic network imperfections for root cause source and recommend any appropriate corrective actions. Implement fix/correction as directed
• Contribute to the definition of operational and support requirements for new network related technologies and products
• Provide routing escalation support for all Metro and Backbone network elements
• Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• Bachelors of Science or Applied Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or five years military and/or industrial Engineering experience
• Must have proven experience in design and turn-up of multi-gigabit transport networks
• Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills and a customer-centric attitude
• 5 years of Service Provider network experience
• Recent work history with MPLS and commercial networks and the various components included
• Recent network design experience in a related field. Routing (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP) and switching expertise
• Extensive Network Engineering and architecture experience - excellent understanding of Internet and datacenter topologies
• Experience evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of network equipment especially Juniper, Cisco, Brocade, and Alcatel-Lucent - solid understanding of associated vendor hardware architecture and characteristics

Computer Skills:

• Strong knowledge with configuration of Juniper/Cisco routers and switches in an ISP environment
• Thorough understanding of various L2/L3 protocols and technologies: TCP/IP (v4 & v6) and related protocols, MPLS-based services, QOS, BFD, LACP, VRRP, STP, etc.
• Strong understanding of Internet Protocols and interior/exterior routing protocols (e.g. ISIS, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Multicast, IPv6 )
• Excellent understanding of ACLs, prefix lists, and firewalls
• Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and IP Management
• JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP and/or CCNP/CCIP/CCDP required and or equivalent work experience
