General Purpose
Connectivity Wireless specializes in designing, deploying, and operating high capacity wired and wireless networks inside some of the country’s top entertainment venues including professional and college sports arenas, e-sports arenas, concert venues, and more.
This opening located in the Houston, TX area is highly focused on providing excellent network support and onsite event support for leading professional sports venues. In addition, this role will include remote support and travel to customer sites throughout the United States. The Network Engineer role also involves participation in ongoing discussions regarding network architecture, network operations, and business process improvement.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of wired and wireless network architecture, network operations, server virtualization, cloud computing, scripting and automation, excellent customer service skills, a strong desire to learn and grow, and a passion for innovation.
Essential Duties
· Monitor network infrastructure availability to ensure uptime SLAs are maintained
· Identify and remediate network performance and availability issues
· Build and maintain documentation for customer and internal networks
· Interface with clients to discuss ongoing challenges and issues with networks
· Perform onsite deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting
· Perform regular onsite event support at local customer venues
· Disconnect/Reconnect temp access points due to event load-in/load-out
· Install and track network infrastructure software/firmware updates
Essential Functions
Infrastructure Maintenance
Network Engineers are responsible for ensuring network infrastructure remains in good working order. This involves monitoring both availability, and network performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues. In addition, they will be responsible for maintaining network infrastructure firmware at the latest approved revision, and performing regularly scheduled onsite maintenance. Annual Preventative Maintenance (APM) of IDFs, including switch blow-outs, wipe down dust debris and visual checks. UPS battery replace/maintenance.
Network Performance and Availability
The Network Engineer will work with senior engineering staff to driving uptime and performance SLAs across the organization. This is not limited to break/fix scenarios, but also encompasses identifying negative network performance trends, forecasting network growth requirements, identifying chronic/recurring issues that may be indicative of larger problems.
Onsite Event Support
The Network Engineer will participate in regular onsite event support at local customer venues. The purpose of this support is to ensure that customer networks and network services are operating within specified parameters during events. This may include working 12+ hour days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Network Infrastructure Deployment
The Network Engineer will perform onsite infrastructure deployment tasks such as testing and terminating cables, deploying temporary networks for events, Operating lifts to reach elevated equipment, replacing equipment in IDF/MDF locations.
Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience
· Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or 2 years’ experience with wireless and networking systems, is required.
Core Competencies
· Proficient with common WLAN components including fiber and ethernet cabling, networking switches, firewalls, and routers, Wi-Fi Access Points and Controllers, Reporting tools, etc.
· Experience troubleshooting/configuring LAN and WLAN networks
· Use of Wireless troubleshooting tools, such as Wireshark, Air Checker, Ekahau, Hamina, etc.
· Working knowledge of Virtualization and Cloud Solutions, such as VMWare and AWS.
· Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
· Ability to drive performance and execute against plan
· Ability to manage crises and issues effectively
· Ability to communicate effectively with both internal & external customers, both orally and in writing
· Industry Certifications appreciated: CCNA, CWNA, Network+, Security+
· Knowledge of scripting or programming languages appreciated: Python, Flask, PowerShell, PHP, HTML/CSS, etc.
Physical Demands
· Must be able to carry a laptop for an extended amount of time during venue evaluation
· Must be able to walk for extended periods of time, both outdoors and indoors
· Must be able to climb ladders and perform lengthy site walks
· Ability to lift 30lbs or more
Work Environment
· When not in the office, the position will encounter various work environments in the field including but not limited to office space, warehouse, refinery, power plant, manufacturing facility, new construction site, hotel, sport venue, campus, and airport.
· Most of the work to be performed in the Central Eastern US Area, with travel possible up to 25% of the time.
· Event support required on nights, weekends and holidays as required
· Call‐out on nights, weekends, and holidays may be required to meet customer service level agreements.

Pay: Up to $85,000.00 per year
