Job Summary

The Network Configuration Engineer's primary duties involves configuring Masergy services for our customers Configure Cisco routers, Fortinet firewalls, SDWAN devices and NIDs using standard and non-standard templates The secondary duties include supporting the Network Activation Engineers during the Activation calls if there are issues with the Network Configurations and also supporting the NOC if there are Network Configurations issues 72 hours after the Activations Additional duties as assigned.

Skills - Abilities - Knowledge

  • Advance level working knowledge in configuring IPv4/IPv6 routing, switching and protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Radius/LDAP, IPsec, GRE, NAT, 802.1q, QOS, VRRP/HSRP, Layer 2 VPLS and SSL VPN
  • Advance level working knowledge in configuring SD-WAN devices such as Silver Peak and Fortinet
  • Be able to do configurations on Cisco routers, Fortinet firewalls and Nokia Service Routers
  • Working knowledge in Cloud Providers such as AWS, Azure, and Google etc.
  • Ability to read and understand the network diagrams and designs and then do configurations accordingly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Communicates clearly and in an understandable manner with a wide range of people such as peers, managers, customers, vendors, distributors, and the public.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves configuration problems in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize several projects and tasks at one time.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Must be a team player, to provide input to other team members, and accept feedback.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in LAN/WAN implementation or support role (Implementation/troubleshooting responsibilities include routers, switches, firewalls, and NIDs)
  • CCNA and/or NSE-7 certification is preferred.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drives issues through closure engaging all appropriate resources. Leads technical bridges and provides troubleshooting direction. Provides guidance and recommended solutions to complex technical issues.
  • Acts as an advocate for Engineering Operations procedures, policies and processes. Ensures projects are fully integrated into the operations environment including lifecycle problem management from front line CARE through Engineering.
  • Creates data and metric systems to track operational workflows; maintains records of results and feedback. Analyzes data and metrics, identifies problem areas and provides actionable insight to management.
  • Provides input to Engineering and vendors on defects and required enhancements. Attains all relevant industry standard technical certifications.
  • Performs complex and routine maintenance tests for designated areas of engineering. Identifies, isolates and escalates issues to appropriate personnel. Ensures that all maintenance is properly validated to minimize subscriber impact to (ideally) zero.
  • Contributes to design considerations for new products or architectural changes to existing products. Assists with or leads efforts to build new application infrastructure, coordinating efforts across teams.
  • Analyses problems in design, configuration, data flow and data state within a highly complex multi-product provisioning system.
  • Serves as team lead on multiple projects, often spanning different engineering disciplines within the organization.
  • Leads the integration of projects into operations including instrumentation, automation, standardization and methods/procedures.
  • Does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities. May direct workflow and act as a technical lead.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education
