Duties
1. Navigates advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, high performance military fighter aircraft on tactical/non-tactical assigned missions using advanced precision instrument flight echniques in conjunction with air navigational aids. Directs pilots to fly within flight parameters (e.g. speed and loading) to execute normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all weather condition from point to point (domestic/foreign) using fully adequate landing areas. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions. Maintains mission qualifications in the unit equipped (UE) aircraft. (35%)
2. Prepares for flight to include: securing current and forecast weather information to determine conditions along the proposed route of flight and at the destination; plans the flight through the study of charts to determine routing, intermediate stops, alternate destination, fuel requirements, estimated flying time, and if required, files the aircraft flight plan and reviews aircraft and personnel diplomatic entry requirements; checks and verifies that the airplane is ready for flight, including aspects as defensive equipment and expendables loading, maintenance or service conditions, performing prescribed preflight checks, reviewing load weight, chute type, and positioning for airdrop loads, and obtaining the proper clearances to begin the flight. Directs operations of the aircraft with the utmost safety to include: adhering to flight procedures and parameters in the airplane flight manual, communicating and coordinating with ground units and controlling activities, monitors performance of the airplane and progress of the flight, recommends corrective actions to resolve any abnormal conditions. Accomplishes post-flight activities to include: maintaining aircraft logs and forms; writing flight reports, coordinating with maintenance personnel on service conditions; and conducts post-flight checks. 3. Performs Flight Examining functions which include: evaluating the performance of aircrew members completing initial training; instructing, evaluating, and examining rated instructors; providing periodic flight evaluations of rated aircrew members; and administering requalification evaluations. (15%)
4. Instructor duties include reviewing trainee's prior training and experience records of newly assigned aircrew to determine and planning the type and level of training necessary to achieve the required level of proficiency or skill. Prepares individual developmental records, along with a training syllabus with projected units of training required and ensures all required upgrade training items are completed, signed off, and proficiency demonstrated IAW AFI 11-2 MDS grading requirements before recommending trainee for evaluation or certifying the student as qualified in a tactic or mission. Schedules and participates in flight instruction with student to observe in-flight performance, demonstrate proper procedures and techniques, and evaluate progress. Provides thorough preflight and post-flight briefings and critiques that comply with requirements of mission outlines, as appropriate, for the type mission being flown. Maintains records of ground and flight training provided to crew members, analyzes progress, and prepares required training reports. Evaluates, diagnoses, and critiques student performance, identifies learning objectives and difficulties, and prescribes and conducts remedial instruction. Plans and conducts platform aircrew ground training, including simulator and procedures training on operational mission requirements, equipment operation, correct method for performing aircrew specialty duties, and applicable emergency procedures. 5. Incumbents are subject to rotation to perform administrative staff tasks in any of the following Air Operations program support functional areas:
A. Training and Scheduling: Designs and coordinates comprehensive training plans and scenarios to provide realistic technical aircrew training. Adopts and implements policy to ensure accomplishment of all required training. Establishes training goals and objectives for instrument flight and general operation of the UE airplane. Tailors training program to individual needs in order to provide uninterrupted progress. Analyzes post-mission debriefing and critiques to ensure accomplishment of assigned training events. Plans, develops and implements the unit flying schedule using inputs from within the Air Operations Group. Coordinates the operational requirements with the Aircraft Maintenance Group, the FAA and other outside agencies. Ensures availability of resources when coordinating use of assigned and non-assigned assets to establish unit mission requirements. Analyzes performance discrepancies and identifies trends and recommends corrective action to Air Operations Officer.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Work in this series includes positions responsible for assisting the pilot in aircraft operations by determining, planning, and performing the navigational aspects of the flight. Positions in this series require knowledge of the various methods of air navigation, and skill in using navigational instruments, equipment, and systems in conjunction with flight instruments to direct the movement and positioning of the aircraft to accomplish a specific mission or assignment. Some positions may require knowledge of the use and deployment of fighter aircraft ordnance; skill to conduct preflight checks, recognize malfunctions, and coordinate delivery with the pilot; and knowledge of weapon ballistics and skill to operate related avionics systems for fighter aircraft. Also included are positions responsible for providing ground and flight instruction in air navigation. Experience which provided a working knowledge of the navigation systems and navigational instruments of the assigned airframe.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least 36 months experience, education or training that required obtaining information on type of mission, weather, and intelligence data, and special instructions; experience preparing navigation flight plans; experience that provided a knowledge of proper readings and operations of navigational systems. Validated ability to test and inspect the operation of compasses, navigation systems, or radio and radar equipment; experience utilizing various navigational methods and aids to accomplish flying missions. Experience computing the effect of various factors during flight to establish present course and project balance of course and ability to train, evaluate and certify proficiency and competency of lower graded personnel. Validated completion of the necessary hours required for applicants' current airframe. (ex. 1000 hours total navigation time which includes 200 hours' time in the C-130)
Education
B. Plans: Develops unit deliberate planning for implementation of wartime, base and national tasking. Maintains detailed wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements for unit Mobility, deployment, strange field operations/employment, and redeployment of the unit. Coordinates with the gaining command, NGB and appropriate theater headquarters.
C. Safety: Plans, organizes and administers unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Air Force, ANG and OSHA directives, and applicable technical publications. Reviews and analyzes directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine requirements for safety programs. Inspects facilities and flying operations and coordinates with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs. Investigates accidents/incidents, determines human causes, and recommends corrective action. Coordinates with all supervisors and staff personnel concerning safety standards within individual functional areas. Performs technical analysis of safety data and recommends procedures and guidelines to ensure safe operations of all unit flying and grounds activities. Advises Air Commander on status of units' safety programs.
D. Inspector General: Serves as the Wing Commander's principal advisor and provides technical expert to wing personnel on the Air Force Complaints Resolution and Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) programs and the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS). Plans, directs and manages the activities of the Inspector General office, directing the Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP) and overseeing the wing's self-assessment, exercise and inspection programs. Ensures programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet the needs of the organization. Identifies areas of non-compliance and confirms deficiency resolution. Inspects unit's ability to perform wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements for unit mobility, deployment, strange field operations/employment and redeployment of the unit according to the unit's wartime, base, state and national tasking. Coordinates with the gaining DoD/IG, SAF/IG, NGB-IG, MAJCOM IG, ANG/IG and appropriate state and theater headquarters, as required.
E. Weapons and Tactics: Trains and evaluates proficiency and competency of aircrews in mission employment. Prepares and conducts academic training in mission employment, prepares scenarios utilizing improved tactics for aircrew upgrade and continuation training. Tests and evaluates new Tactics, Techniques and Procedures and makes refinements. Reviews, defines and updates current threats and countermeasures. Analyzes tactical discrepancies and identifies trends and recommends corrective action to Air Operations Officer.
F. Standardization/Evaluation: Plans, organizes and directs the Stan/Eval program. Prepares, administers, and grades ground examinations and conduct flight evaluations for all subjects and duties relevant to aircraft operations to certify flying proficiency/ new qualification. Conducts scheduled and unscheduled evaluations of other flight examiners, flight instructors, and aircrew. Establishes performance standards for flying proficiency and competency in accordance with FAA, ICAO, USAF, ANG and command directives. Review flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency. Analyzes performance discrepancies and identifies trends and recommends corrective action to Air Operations Officer.
