Objective:
Greenacres is an educational, research, and agricultural farm that provides immersive education opportunities. Hundreds of acres of natural area are owned and managed by Greenacres. These natural areas provide crucial resources for wildlife as well as a living classroom for the thousands of students that Greenacres hosts each year. Natural areas at Greenacres are also used for research opportunities. The Natural Resources Technician works under the supervision of the Land Manager to complete tasks related to the management and conservation of the Natural Resources to promote biodiversity and resilient ecosystems, allow for an immersive learning experience, and support ecological research.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with various tasks related to the management of Natural Resources, ecological restoration, and wildlife management
- Perform invasive plant control and forest management using best management practices supported by Greenacres
- Operate various equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, brush cutters, string trimmers, tractors, skid steers, trucks, utility vehicles, sprayers, etc.
- Use hand tools and power tools including but not limited to shovels, rakes, loppers, saws, drills, etc.
- Apply herbicides and pesticides
- Keep records of pesticide use and labor activities
- Assist with ecological data collection and surveys
- Assist with prescribed fire
- Perform maintenance of equipment and facilities
- Assist with the maintenance and construction of trails
- Minor carpentry, construction, and landscape maintenance tasks
- Others duties as assigned that support the Greenacres mission
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1-3 years of experience in land management, Natural Resources, or ecological restoration is preferred
- Experience using a variety of tools and equipment, e.g. UTV, tractor, string trimmer, chainsaw, sprayers and experience with herbicide application preferred
- Ability to identify common invasive plants preferred
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and various weather conditions
- Ability to move equipment and materials up to 50lbs
- Ability to move safely over uneven terrain
- Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as job may require
- Work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection
- Work around chemicals, plants that cause skin irritation, lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints
- Ability and willingness to obtain a pesticide applicator license
- Possession of a valid driver’s licenseAbility to travel to and from all Greenacres’ properties which currently include Indian Hill, OH, Miami Township Clermont County, OH, Lewis Township, OH and Oldenburg, IN.
