This position has a Basic Education Requirement (BER). Have a bachelor's degree with a major in biological sciences, agriculture, Natural Resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in biological science, agriculture, Natural Resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
GS-09: Meet the basic requirement AND one(1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as demonstrated examples of: experience participating in fire and fuels management projects; experience in use and role of fire in natural ecosystems; experience applying knowledge of biological practices, principles, and techniques sufficient to assist in the recommendations of planning and implementing natural resource activities and fuels management. OR meet the basic requirement AND completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master`s degree or master's equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences or a directly related field; OR meet the basic requirement AND possess an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
GS-11: Meet the basic requirement AND one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined at the GS-09 level or above which demonstrates examples of the following: experience participating in Natural Resources program activities by making observations, gathering data, and reporting findings used in Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs); experience planning and implementing hazardous fuels reduction and other vegetation manipulation projects; experience in fire/fuels management to address resource concerns; experience participating in multiple use land management programs, to include project implementation and interdisciplinary team participation, and developing fuels management goals and objectives, OR meet the basic requirements AND completed 3 years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biological sciences or a directly related field; OR meet the basic requirement AND possess an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of walking, standing. crouching, or UTV's over rough, uneven, or rocky terrain. Overnight camping is sometimes required. The incumbent must be physically fit for periods or rigorous activity while performing work assignments.
Work Environment: The work is performed outdoors in remote areas. The work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomfort (e.g. outdoor camping, and insect borne disease). Special safety precautions and specialized equipment are required.
The incumbent will have a wide variety of physical demands varying from office work which will involve 50% of their time to the remaining 50% of their time in the field. While in 1he field, the incumbent will be working in areas ranging from flat to extremely steep and in temperatures from below 0 to 100+ degrees. In some instances. considerable walking to reach the work site will be required. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.Education: This position falls under the General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401 Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) which requires that you have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience---courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
This position has a positive education requirement (see qualification section for education requirements). You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
