Michael Baker International is seeking a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Technical Specialist to join our Consulting and Technology Solutions (CTS) vertical. The GIS Technical Specialist will support and complete tasks for the West Region's Planning Practice and Natural Resources Department, with increasing levels of complexity as a team leader for multiple projects and may be responsible for supervising other team members and for supporting project managers on projects that may be for private, local government, or federal clients.
The GIS Technical Specialist will join a collaborative team, working with restoration ecologists, regulatory specialists, biologists, planners, landscape architects, and engineers dedicated to having a positive impact through intentional work. They will also be working with a national practice within CTS of GIS professionals in a collaborative environment for learning, innovation, and career growth. They will help grow Michael Baker's geospatial technology throughout the region to provide the highest quality consulting services to public and private sector clients. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide data, analysis, and visualizations using GIS software to support project delivery and client engagement
- Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data according to data quality specifications
- Prepare high quality maps and illustrations for environmental documents and reports
- Review project specifications and confer with project managers to determine project technical approach
- Extract data from GIS software; use varying analysis methods to arrive at desired results
- Recognize opportunities in the market for sales and business development opportunities, and make recommendations on how to capture these opportunities
- Implement and manage geospatial web applications designed to support data visualization, client engagement, and public outreach
- Provide technical guidance and training for less experienced staff
- Provide QA/QC for GIS data and work products
- Provide technical guidance and communication between clients or other project stakeholders to ensure satisfactory customer service
- Stay knowledgeable of trends and current developments within the geospatial discipline
- Participate in internal and external professional development activities
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of related experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Full competency in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro
- Competency with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise, including Experience Builder, ArcGIS Hub, and Dashboards
- Experience in ArcGIS mobile applications technology
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, ArcGIS Arcade)
- Understanding of deliverables tied to environmental regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, CWA, and ESA)
- General awareness of ecosystems and Natural Resources throughout California
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, problem solving, organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-player attitude
- Self-starter, ability to manage multiple tasks and to shift priorities
- Experience in client strategy, developing a scope of work, and preparing costs for levels of effort
- Experience assisting with technical proposal writing is desired
- Experience working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative consulting environment is desired
PREFERRED
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification is preferred, but not required
- Understanding of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technology and how to implement within projects to obtain supplemental data (aerial imagery, multi-spectral imagery, video, still photographs)
- Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA is beneficial, but not required
- FEMA HAZUS mapping experience is strongly preferred
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $125,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
