The Nano and Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology instructor position in the Division of Industrial Technologies and Professional Studies and will report to the Dean. The instructor will prepare and deliver lectures and/or lab course material; prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction; evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives; will prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports; will ensure that safety and security requirements are met in the training area; will display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operate effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior; assist with recruitment retention and job placement efforts. Will perform other job assignments and duties assigned by Dean.
This position is grant-funded, employment is contingent on renewal of funding at the end of the 4-year, grant period.
The instructor must possess the ability to:
- Prepares lesson plans for classroom and laboratory instruction for specified courses.
- Organize and conduct classes using a variety of learning experiences and activities.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward student learning and course progress.
- Demonstrate current and comprehensive knowledge of the subject areas and courses to be taught, including labs.
- Accurately and timely, submit required reports to the students and college.
- Instruct classes in Nano and Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology utilizing techniques and knowledge of the discipline-facilitating student learning.
- Provide appropriate means to assess student progress and provide timely feedback on lectures and labs.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve educational objectives.
- Strong oral communication skills, professional attitude, desire to help students succeed in their career goals.
- Strive to enhance instructional and learning performances.
- Ability to work well with GPTC students, people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
- Evaluates students' progress in attaining their respective goals and objectives.
- Communicates students' progress to student and appropriate personnel and according to established guidelines.
- Accurately record pertinent information in students' records as necessary.
- Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports to department and college.
- Complies and submits reports in a timely manner, meeting all GPTC deadlines.
- Plans and conducts outreach to the business community with the goal to develop partnerships and delivery of college services locally and regionally.
- Assist in the recruitment and registration of prospective and enrolled students.
- Maintains workforce and technical knowledge of Nano and Semiconductor Manufacturing programs including, Industry Certifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree from a national or regionally accredited college or university in engineering, electronics, or a nanotechnology or Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology related field. Appropriate degree will reflect the requirements of the College's accrediting agency. 3 to 5 years teaching in Nano and Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology related courses in a technical college environment. Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills. Also, must be able to teach evening classes.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a national or regionally accredited college or university in Nanotechnology, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology or a related field. Postsecondary teaching experience desired. Industry or teaching experience in
- Safety and Equipment Overview for Nanotechnology and Semiconductor Processing
- Semiconductor and Nanotechnology Manufacturing,
- Nanofabrication Technology
- Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, and other Nano and Semiconductor technology related courses.
In addition to technical lectures, the instructor should have experience in the following areas:
- Environment, health, and safety (EHS) issues in equipment operation
- Materials handling in "top down" and "bottom up" nano scale and Semiconductor fabrication,
- OSHA lab standard safety training
- Specific safety issues dealing with equipment, materials, and processing
- Materials used in nanofabrication
- Operation of semiconductor devices such as transistors, diodes, solar cells, light-emitting devices
- Equipment used in the manufacturing of Nano and Semiconductor technology (i.e Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), fluorescence microscopes, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and other related cleaning room equipment used for structure control, composition control, surface property control, strain control, functionalization, and doping)
Familiarity with training systems such as Festo and Amatrol Virtual Training Software would be a plus for each candidate. Five or more years, within the last ten of full-time, paid in-field work experience in nanotechnology and Semiconductor cleanroom position and/or service, education/training, or a closely related field. Experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels the instructor will be expected to teach. Knowledge of Blackboard (Learning Management System) is desirable. Experience in hybrid and/or virtual instruction or courses
Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is also desired.
The salary for this position is commensurate with experience. This is a grant-funded position. Continuous employment is contingent on renewal of funding at the end of the four-year, grant period. This is a full-time position with paid state holidays, accrued annual and sick leave and the State of Georgia Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
