Job Summary
The Database Administrator is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and security of our Rocket Universe Database. This role supports the company mission by providing a stable and efficient database environment that allows daily operations to focus on providing the highest quality transportation services in the Northwest. This role reports to the IT Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure reliable system availability and performance.
- Manage and administer access control and audit account usage.
- Design, develop, and implement data models, schemas, and structures to support business requirements.
- Perform system maintenance, such as tuning, archiving, indexing, backup, and restoration of database files.
- Install, upgrade, configure, and patch the database servers.
- Maintain disaster recovery and high availability plans.
- Monitor usage, volumes, response times, concurrency levels, etc.
- Monitor and react to event triggers that alert on potential system performance or integrity issues.
- Collaborate with developers and system administrators to optimize database performance and integration with other systems.
- Work with service desk to facilitate root cause analysis and timely resolution of system issues.
- Recommend new features or changes to functionality based on performance logs, incident resolution, or user feedback.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Participate in cross functional projects and assist team to ensure projects are completed on-time and in-scope.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for service desk support.
- Will perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Education:
- 3-5 years of professional MultiValue PICK database management experience. Rocket Universe experience a plus.
- Bachelor's in computer science, related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- Prior transportation experience is preferred, LTL trucking extremely nice to have.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in PICK MultiValue databases.
- Basic understanding of modern programming languages like Java, Python, etc.
- Basic understanding of building APIs and services using REST, SOAP, etc.
- Up to date knowledge of industry best practices and technology developments.
- Excellent analytical ability, natural curiosity, troubleshooting, and problem-solving aptitude.
- Outstanding interpersonal and tailored communication skills.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and efficiently switch between tasks with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Constant sitting at a desk with repetitive hand movements to operate a computer for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend below waist level to adjust operating hardware on occasion.
- Ability to travel to, and move about in, field locations on occasion.
- Ability to occasionally work non-traditional or extended hours based on business needs.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend conversational English.
