Description
Technologists perform procedures and examinations in hospital radiology departments under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers to produce radiographic studies which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body. Diagnostic radiologic technologists receive and interpret requests and/or instructions for radiologic procedures; gain the cooperation of patients; operate radiographic equipment; protect patients from secondary radiation; and record results. This position requires knowledge of radiation protection standards; knowledge of the function of the major divisions of the skeletal system and major organs; and knowledge of the physical concept of energy and the property of X-rays
Understands preps and time requirements for imaging exams. Able to call physicians for orders and or change of orders. Is able to perform STAT exams in a timely manner and convey results to the appropriate staff. Assists the radiology clerk in various clerical aspects. Must be capable of performing portable X-ray, be familiar with operating C-arm in surgical cases, able to assist with Fluoroscopy studies, be familiar with CT scan protocols and parameters. CT registry required within 1 year of hire date. Able to take call, work weekends, Holidays and as needed.
SPECIFICATIONS
• Is able to assist with scheduling imaging exams which include: CT, US, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Fluoroscopy, and general radiology procedures
• Understands required patient preps for all radiology exams that are scheduled.
• Explains radiology exams to patients and answers questions they may have.
• Is able to arrange for patients to pick up needed supplies, such as BE prep kits or CT oral contrast.
• Maintains patient confidentiality while interacting with public, physicians, and co-workers.
• Alerts appropriate technologist when add-on exams are scheduled. These exams may require special preps.
• Alerts Centralized Scheduling when add-on exams are scheduled.
• Refers patients to a financial counselor to make payment arrangements when necessary.
• Assists with making CD'S and telerading images to appropriate outside facility. Knows how to operate scanner and has basic trouble shooting skills for Novarad equipment.
• Helps with reception duties; answering phone, taking messages, paging overhead, and transferring calls as needed.
• Assists with film control duties; pulling films, filing films, and checking films in and out of the facility.
• Assists in maintaining department records, reports, and files.
• Assists in keepings office stocked with clerical supplies and radiology forms.

Requirements
EDUCATION
Graduate from an accredited Radiology Program
EXPERIENCE
1-year practical experience in a radiology department
CT experience Required
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION
Must be board certified ARRT (R)
Washington State Certification
Current BLS certification
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work projects effectively and efficiently; independently as indicated. Must have flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department. Computer literacy is essential. Good phone skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to assist in transferring patients to and from the CT/Xray table and transport patients to and from the exam room.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This person spends 95% of their time in temperature controlled office space. The potential for exposure to biohazardous agents or exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potential infectious agents is minimal. This position requires contact with patients and staff under a wide variety of circumstances.
