Description
The Motor Pool Bus Driver shall report to the Vice President of Operations & Special Projects. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections before and after each route
  • Ability to assess and correct minor maintenance issues that may arise on a trip (wiper blades, jump-starting a battery, changing a flat tire, etc.)
  • Identifies and communicates mechanical/maintenance and/or emergency situations to Motor Pool Supervisor
  • Ability to read and follow navigation equipment.
  • Ability to safely drive in inclement weather as necessary (snow, rain, etc.)
  • Ability to safely drive earlier in the morning or later at night as necessary.
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers
  • Record and report mileage after each trip.
  • May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Qualifications
  • Valid New Mexico commercial driver's license (Required)
  • CPR/ First Aid certified at the time of hire or achieve certification within 30 days from the date of hire.
  • School bus and passenger endorsements (Preferred)
  • At least six (6) months of experience operating large passenger buses (40 feet or greater)
  • As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing
  • Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five( 5) years

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures.

  • Ability to operate a bus safely and for prolonged periods of time.
  • Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with multiple groups of people, including coaches, athletes, and college staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience performing routine pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Knowledge of accident prevention/safe driving and bus operations practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Professional attitude and appearance and exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with students, coaches, and any other passengers.
  • Commercial driving experience required - with a solid safety record, preferably in the bus transportation industry.
  • Attendance as scheduled
  • Strong organizational and route planning skills.
  • Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Driving, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Additional Information
This is a twelve-month exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $46,902 to $68,327.
