JOB SUMMARY:
This position handles the centralized underwriting and processing of the bank’s in-house consumer-purpose real estate-secured loan applications, including residential Mortgage Loans, home equity lines of credit, land loans, and mobile home loans. This position also works with certain secondary market mortgage companies to which the bank may refer Mortgage Loan applications.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for underwriting and processing in-house consumer-purpose real estate-secured loan applications, including residential Mortgage Loans, home equity lines of credit, land loans, and mobile home loans.
- Manages a pipeline of residential Mortgage Loan applications referred to secondary market mortgage companies for which the bank acts as a wholesale Mortgage Loan originator.
- Adheres to appropriate loan underwriting and pricing guidelines; obtains necessary loan approvals.
- Assists borrowers through the application and closing process; communicates effectively with borrowers and third parties both orally and in writing; sets clear expectations and provides timely responses.
- Enters information in Loan Documentation system; orders credit reports; obtains verification of income and employment; orders flood determinations; reviews appraisals; reviews sales contracts and construction plans; obtains evidence of insurance; obtains preliminary and final title insurance policies; performs all other required underwriting and processing steps.
- Accurately prepares and delivers all required regulatory disclosures within mandatory timeframes.
- Coordinates loan closings; follows up on post-closing items in a timely manner.
- Accurately prepares and delivers Adverse Action Notices when necessary.
- May call on realtors, builders, and banking centers to develop new business as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong understanding of the underwriting, documentation, and process flow requirements for residential Mortgage Loans, home equity lines of credit, land loans, and mobile home loans.
- Superior time management and organizational skills; ability to identify and establish priorities.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate clearly with borrowers, service providers, closing agents, and other parties in an appropriate manner and tone, without grammatical or spelling errors.
- High School Degree or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five years of experience in underwriting and processing consumer-purpose real estate-secured loans required.
- Basic computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, this position may require the ability to lift files, bend, reach, walk or maneuver around an office. This position may occasionally need to lift up to 25 pounds.
