USDA/SWCD Service Center Position Description
Duration: 2024-2025 School Year
Job Title: Intern-Heppner Field Office
Primary Supervisor: District Conservationist, Jennifer Wilson
Regular Hours: 5-15 hours per week
Schedule: Flexible Schedule Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Salary Minimum wage
Purpose and Objective of this position:
The student intern will assist service center staff with conservation planning tasks, file organization, outreach opportunities and field checks. This internship will allow the student to explore future career opportunities within the Agriculture/Natural Resources sector.
Job Description:
• Work with Field Office staff to keep contracts on schedule
• Greets producers and answers phone calls
• Participate in outreach events such as local work group meetings, grower group meetings, outdoor school, and community events
• Writes news articles for publication and outreach
• Assist in mass mailings
• Make field visits as needed and requested
• Assists in record and document maintenance
Preferred Skills
• Microsoft Office experience
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Outgoing and willing to work with private landowners
• Ability to provide quality customer
• Ability to be flexible with day-to-day tasks and work assignments
• Strong attendance and work ethic background
Essential Job Functions:
• Work in both an office and outdoor setting. Dress appropriately
• Maintain private landowner confidentiality
• Occasional lifting of heavy files
