Parts, Packing and Service Counter
Part/Full time, 30-40 hours per week
Daily responsibilities:
We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking individual that wants to work Mon-Fri in a local small business that does business globally.
If you get this job, here is what you would be doing each day:
- Talking on the phone to customers from all over the world who want to buy or sell items and determining if we can help them figure out what windshield or tire they need, or taking their order;
- Learning how to sell online, so we need a person who is a bit tech savvy- but don’t think you need to be an IT guy. If you can maneuver around Facebook, you will be just fine.
- Helping set up and run our live online auctions.
- Correctly identify toy truck parts or antiques that have sold, pulling web orders & prepare for shipping.
- Securely and correctly pack, tape and label boxes for shipping so that despite the shipping company’s best efforts to the contrary, they actually arrive in one piece.
- Stocking parts in the correct bins
- Taking customer orders over the phone, entering them on the computer. Knowledge of trucks/truck history (what a 67' Ford looked like versus a 72' Dodge) is helpful here beyond knowing they have wheels and windshield.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for people who:
1. Can physically stand at a packing station for 4-6 hours a day, repetitively packing small toy parts, signs, and other antiques.
2. Are available to work Monday - Friday 9am – 5pm.
3. Pay attention to details so quantities and parts numbers are correct.
4. Are kind, considerate, reliable, fun to be around and just a good human being.
5. Did we mention reliability? It's kind of a big deal. That means you follow through with what is asked and show up when expected.
6. You have to be able to lift at least 40-50 pounds - which is about the weight of a 3.5 MH Mercury Outboard Boat Motor or 5 bowling balls- but we would love it if you could lift even more. Almost everyone else who works here is middle aged with a bad back, so we are hoping for a person who is stronger than us!
7. Aren’t socially awkward, too Pollyanna happy, too Eeyore grouchy (a happy medium would be swell), a jerk to others, a pain in the derriere, not willing to learn or improve, or who will quit after working once or twice. Sarcasm runs rampant through this team but in a funny way- we try to stop short of offensive behavior and won’t put up with that crap. Translation: If we Google you and do a publicly available social media search (which we will) we shouldn’t be able to see that you can’t adult.
8. Understand that your schedule will be based on our business staffing needs- roughly 9am -5pm, but Wednesday night availability from 7-10pm would be helpful as well for our live auctions. We are certainly willing to talk in person about what works for you and always try to be flexible so we can all have a life outside of work.
9. Have common sense and can solve problems or resolve interpersonal communication issues calmly and respectfully without needing the boss to intervene.
10. Are self-motivated, able to work independently and able to figure out what needs to be accomplished so we all love to work with you!
11. Understand there are no healthcare or retirement benefits to this job, but we do give you other benefits: working for fun people with great customers, free soda from our Fountain machine, occasional snacks and getting to witness history everyday - all of which can be really cool and outweigh the benefits of an HMO with a high deductible any day.
