Broadband Installation Technician Intern

Duration: 2024-2025 School Year (Semester 1 and/or Semester 2) Job Title: Broadband Installation Technician
Supervisor: Superintendent
Regular Hours: 5-15 hours per week
Overall purpose and objective of this position:
Pendleton Overground Broadband is offering an entry level Broadband Technician Internship that will introduce the intern to a wide variety of projects and on-site job skills.
Position: Broadband Technician, MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD
Key responsibilities
• Assist in installing and maintaining residential fiber optic Internet, underground and overhead service drops.
• Assist in installing wireless Internet in the Boardman, OR area
• Schedule installations and site surveys with customers
• Qualify residential service addresses for service through mapping for fiber services and onsite line-of-site surveys for wireless
• Conduct community outreach to increase broadband penetration in the community.
Skills
• Ability to dig, place conduit, operate vibratory pipe plow or similar relevant expierience.*
• Work with ladders, power tools.*
• Ability to work safely*
• Work with fiber optic cable, including splice termination.
• Bi-lingual - Spanish / English
• Knowledge of basic networking
• Proficient in configuration of wireless routers, and configuration of wireless settings on end user devices
• Use of CRM software to document customer information and technical details of service
• Use of mapping software or services such as Google Earth, GIS, ability to read and interpret maps and site construction plans.
*Quality workmanship or prior experience with the physical installation of services or construction is more important than the technical skills to bring to the internship. It is expected that technical skills such as fiber optic termination, installing home network equipment and CRM (customer resource management) would be taught on the job during the internship period.
Examples of relevant experience:
CableTV Installation, Satellite TV Installation, Underground sprinkler system installation and repair, electrical work, low-voltage cabling installation, excavation, etc...
