Description
AHA's Mobile Phlebotomist is responsible for arriving in a timely manner to obtain blood specimens from clients/patients, pick-ups of other specimens and the safe and timely transportation of these specimens to the appropriate testing site. Our Phlebotomist is responsible for delivering excellent patient care and maintaining professionalism always. Must follow all regulatory and governmental requirements such as HIPAA, Patient Rights, CLIA and OSHA standards. Must have the ability to draw difficult and combative patients; Maintain good rapport with the nursing staff and is able to communicate well in English; Must have the ability to think quickly and make good judgment calls; is flexible and a self-starter. Minimum requirements for consideration for employment: One-year of successful work experience performing phlebotomy services in long-term care settings or in comparable clinical environments; Phlebotomy certification preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Phlebotomist is responsible for efficiently and safely obtaining requisite blood specimens in accordance with venipuncture standards and practice guidelines as delineated by nationally recognized Phlebotomy Certification Organizations (i.e., National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Services; National Phlebotomy Association; American Certification Agency, etc.) and as detailed in the AHA Phlebotomy Manual;
The Phlebotomist must demonstrate competency in assessing patient venipuncture needs with respect to age, physical condition, and mental status, to determine the most appropriate venipuncture techniques, supplies and equipment required to minimize the risk of injury, infection, pain and emotional upset;
The Phlebotomist must interact effectively with patients, nursing and medical personnel, supervisors, co-workers and laboratory staff regarding job-related issues;
Access and communicate relevant venipuncture practice protocols and AHA policies to patients, family members, nursing home staff, and co-workers;
Must maintain and present a positive attitude and concern for patient and staff safety, quality patient care and consistently demonstrate these attributes in consideration of time-sensitive blood draw requirements;
Must demonstrate proficiency and adherence to Universal Precautions regarding exposure to needles, RESPONSIBILITIES (continued):
infectious waste, blood and body fluids (and the effective handling and disposal thereof) as prescribed by CDC, OSHA, and delineated in the AHA Phlebotomy Manual;

  1. Must adhere to AHA policy that prohibits phlebotomists from attempting a third successive venipuncture attempt without obtaining prior written approval from the attending nurse or physician;
  2. Must adhere to State mandated driving laws and requirements with respect to the use of seat belts, obeying speed limits, and other applicable safe driving practices;
  3. Safely collect and transport biological specimens from collection sites to designated laboratories, hospitals, or drop-off sites, within expected time-frames;
  4. Must be able to navigate assigned geographic areas within assigned and scheduled time-frames;
  5. Comply with AHA policies and procedures with respect to the use of supplies, materials, and specimen transportation containers;
  6. Must respond in a timely manner (as defined in the AHA Phlebotomy Manual) to all telephone calls, text messages, and voice mails messages while on duty; and provide at least one (1) alternate contact method;
  7. Must "double identify" patients using patient name, wrist-band ID, verbal confirmation of date of birth, nurse identification, etc., prior to performing venipuncture;
  8. Must notify the attending Nurse of any patient venipuncture refusal; document the refusal as specified in the AHA Manual; document the Nurses instructions; and communicate the interaction to the appropriate AHA staff (supervisor, call center, etc.);
  9. Read, understand, and comply with posted "Patient Rights" and "Resident Rights" and HIPAA guidelines regarding confidential medical information; Must complete all required daily documentation, including: facility blood draw logs; AHA logs; initial, time, and date, logs and requisitions as required; facility supply logs and refrigerator logs;
  10. Must be available to work during the hours of their regularly scheduled shift and complete all orders assigned to their company issued cell phone;
  11. Other documentation as required and requested by AHA Phlebotomy Supervisors and Managers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to speak English so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation, both in person and on the telephone. Must be able to read, write and complete pertinent documents in English.
MATH SKILLS:
Responsible for documenting and calculating their time worked/mileage that is complete, accurate and honest. It is the Phlebotomist's responsibility to submit payroll/mileage documentation timely and in accordance with company policy.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
AHA's Phlebotomist is responsible for data entry (activation) of all collected specimens into the AHA data system. The Phlebotomist is responsible for activating specimens with Client Solutions by telephone when data entry is not possible.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Responsible for maintaining personal vehicle and keeping it operational always. Phlebotomists are required to use their own personal vehicle to transport specimens. Current automobile insurance coverage in required amount: $100,000/$300,000/$100,000; must maintain a clean driving record and valid driver license, which will be checked annually.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must successfully complete an AHA-administered written test on phlebotomy practices and perform successfully on an initial and annual Venipuncture Practice Skills and Documentation Evaluations, conducted by AHA Phlebotomy Supervisory team;
  2. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal and (English) communication skills for interacting with patients, family members, nursing home staff, supervisors, and co-workers;
  3. Professional presentation with respect to attire (medical scrubs), demeanor (courteous), hygiene, and ability to interact effectively and positively regarding work-related issues, concerns, and activities;
  4. Must demonstrate appropriate (English) written and verbal skills necessary to legibly complete all required paperwork and communications, to successfully perform venipuncture and associated activities;
  5. Position may require limited on-call rotation;
  6. Must have a valid Driver License without revocations, suspensions, or excessive violations;
  7. Must provide proof of ownership or unrestricted use of a safe, dependable, duly registered automobile;
  8. Must provide Proof of Insurance in your name and in the required coverage amounts: $100,000/$300,000/$$100,000 or suggested coverage amounts: $250,000/$500,000/$100,000;
  9. Must maintain a clean driving record which will be checked annually.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have at minimum: High School Diploma; Minimum of one-year of successful work experience performing phlebotomy services in long-term care settings or in comparable clinical environments. Ability to communicate in English (verbal & written); position requires excellent communication with the facilities staff members, patients and co-workers; Must be able to read and write in English, follow instructions, and complete all pertinent documents in English.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
