Position Overview: A Mobile Phlebotomist is a healthcare professional responsible for performing blood draws and specimen collection on patients at various off-site locations, such as patients' homes, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities. They ensure accurate and safe sample collection while providing excellent patient care and maintaining strict adherence to established protocols and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all age groups, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
Patient Interaction: Communicate with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, explaining the blood draw procedure, alleviating any concerns, and ensuring patient comfort throughout the process.
Safety and Infection Control: Follow strict safety protocols and infection control procedures to minimize the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and prevent cross-contamination.
Specimen Handling: Properly handle, process, and transport collected blood specimens to the laboratory, ensuring they remain viable for accurate analysis.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring they are sterile, calibrated, and in proper working condition.
Documentation: Accurately record patient information, blood collection details, and other relevant data, maintaining proper documentation of all procedures performed.
Time Management: Efficiently plan and organize daily schedules to visit multiple locations and ensure timely collections while accommodating patients' needs.
Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor.
Quality Assurance: Comply with quality control measures, participate in proficiency testing programs, and adhere to regulatory requirements to ensure accuracy and precision in sample collection.
Medical Knowledge: Stay updated on phlebotomy best practices, industry trends, and changes in healthcare regulations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal phlebotomy training program is preferred.
- Certification as a Phlebotomist (CPT) from a recognized accrediting agency is a plus.
· Must have 100 sticks with two- and three-years’ experience.
- Proven experience in performing venipuncture and capillary puncture with a focus on patient care and safety.
- Knowledge of standard medical terminology, infection control protocols, and blood specimen handling procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and handle a diverse patient population.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between off-site locations.
Physical Requirements:
- The Mobile Phlebotomist must be able to stand for extended periods, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- The job may require frequent travel to different locations, including patient homes and healthcare facilities.
