Responsibilities
Position Description:
The Milieu Manager will work closely with all members of nursing administration to assure program integrity and structure in all the inpatient units on campus. Duties of the Milieu Manager will include the following: Assist in the direct care and management of patients as determined by the Treatment Plan, Program Structure, and presenting issues / behaviors of the patients; provides continual supervision, safety, crisis management, and therapeutic interventions; assists with implementing the program structure and the safe delivery of care to promote wellness of the individual patient. The Manager will be responsible for the training of new acute MHSs, function as a mentor, and assist with shadowing schedules. Assists in creating and revising milieu schedule for the inpatient and residential units. Organizes, schedules, communicates and leads Mental Health Specialist/team meetings on a quarterly or more frequent basis. Responsible for unit program manual and updating patient handbooks. Participates in at least one performance improvement team / committee monthly. Assist with employment interviews for MHS for specific area of focus. Assists in completing employee check ins, MHS Score Cards, 90-day and Annual Evaluations and assist or completes employee coaching or corrective actions. Assists with resolution of other unit milieu issues as they arise with the other members of Nursing Administration Team. Responsible for assuring Service Excellence Standards are followed by staff and sets the example for all staff. The schedule will be flexible and variable to assure coverage seven days per week and on all shifts. The Milieu Supervisor will be accountable to assist in unit coverage during times of crisis or increased unit acuity and will support and respond to unit needs as they arise.

Qualifications
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Frequently stands, walks, kneels, reaches while working with patients/residents/students.
Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical restraint of patients.
Ability to perform CPR and first aid (Basic Life Support)
Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to drive a vehicle if necessary.
Must be able to speak, read and write.
Ability to visually supervise residents & hear requests for assistance from patients and staff.
Emotional stability necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
Vision and hearing sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
Skills:
Requires organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Requires creativity, high energy and problem solving skills. Good verbal and written skills. Ability to rotate shifts and programs, as necessary. Ability to work as one part of a team approach for the care of the patients/residents/students. Demonstrates ability to problem solve, resolve crisis situations, and maintain a calm composure under stressful situations. Must demonstrate an investment in Cedar Springs Hospital and the growth and culture of the units and staff.
Education:
Requires Bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences and have at least (2) years working in the behavioral health field with (1) year of Full Time supervisory experience in a related field. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have an extensive understanding and working knowledge of residential and acute units in a hospital setting. Must be able to work effectively with children, adolescents and adults.
The Milieu Manager is a Behavioral/Psychiatric Health Specialist with a focus on leading the unit in active and engaging programming. This position carries out the daily routines of patient care under the direction of the Director of Operations.
This includes:
-Participating in assigned groups and activities to meet the needs of various patient populations.
-Demonstrating the ability to maintain therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.
-Participating with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu. Provides verbal de-escalation techniques and physical management, as needed.
-Assisting in the ongoing assessment of the safety and emotional needs of each patient.
-Demonstrating awareness of the key elements of the treatment plans for all assigned patients and provides intervention/care accordingly on an individualized basis.
-Assisting patients with their personal grooming and personal hygiene, appropriate to the patient's age, developmental level and needs.
-Ensuring 15-minute rounds are conducted as required.
