The Opportunity
This role provides three different levels of support: Assessment/Data Support, Campus/District Support, and Individual Teacher Support. Initially, the Assessment and Data support will be all-consuming, and then Campus/District and Teacher support will become the primary function of the Achievement Specialist.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Collaborate with school management to determine tiered school-based support and the specific needs, priorities and action plan for schools
Support Regional Professional Learning (RPL), as well as school-based and feeder pattern professional learning
Provide observation and coaching support to shared leaders and teachers aligned to the teacher development rubric
Build and maintain an exemplar classroom and instructional practice library for region-wide use
Facilitate teacher learning and act as instructional coaches during new teacher orientation
Support in planning, facilitation and/or development of the scope for regional shared leader development
Participate in the selection of lab classrooms, coach lab classroom teachers and drive the way the region leverages lab classrooms
Support campus based professional learning structures (content team meetings, data days, one on ones)
Observes classrooms regularly and provides clear, actionable feedback to the shared leader
Provides feedback to the shared leader that improves teacher practice and student achievement by: developing and maintaining positive working relationships with leaders, leveraging the strengths of the school and the systems in place and providing high leverage action steps
Observing and/or facilitating content team meetings and providing feedback that leads to improvement of the content team meetings
Facilitates quality professional learning that leads to improved leader and teacher practice
Data Analysis and Action Planning
Train and coach on daily data practices (aggressive monitoring, daily data dive, exit ticket trackers, etc.)
Develop, train, coach and manage strategic reteach resources and coach to improve teacher and leader practice
Analyze region wide and school specific data, identify trends and influence regional team response
Collaborate with data and analytics team to develop and improve data dashboards
Collaborate with data team to manage, train and leverage teacher facing data management systems
Complete and communicate region-wide data analysis at predetermined intervals that match the assessment calendar
Knows the achievement across the region in the assigned content area and at portfolio campuses and can speak to the region-wide/campus level response to the data
Proactively uses data to drive decisions at the regional and campus level
Uses data to drive conversations and decisions at the campus level and can speak to the outcomes of those conversations
Proactively analyzes portfolio data on a cycle, action plans and communicates with the appropriate individuals
Individual Teacher Support
Communicate with teachers regarding scope and sequence commitments by:Providing feedback on lesson plans
Providing feedback on lesson delivery
Providing feedback on assessment results
Recognize patterns based upon teacher observations and make recommendations to DTL and Head of Schools about professional development to further support teachers
Offer optional planning workshops (on Saturdays, after-school) and “office hours” on school sites. (The AS will seek out teachers; i.e. the AS will be available when teachers are available. The AS will visit teachers during planning periods, for example, to learn more about what they are teaching and plan for and ways to support instruction.)
Deliver and videotape sample lessons
Write sample lesson plans
Must spend 65%-75% of time at schools
Be available to teachers: AS will have office hours both inside and outside of school hours
Perform other duties and drive other projects as may be assigned by the DTL or Heads of Schools
