II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE
Directs the School Band in such a manner that each child within the school has the opportunity to participate in and/or enjoy instrumental music and band activities.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Type C Louisiana teaching certificate. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Recruits band members and creates an interest in band activities.
  2. Administers the Music Aptitude Test.
  3. Presents musical programs and attends competitions.
  4. Presents a spring concert for the public and younger children.
  5. Establishes standards for band participants and works with parents to ensure conformity to standards.
  6. Develops individual programs for each student.
  7. Ensures band performance at football games and Christmas parade.
  8. Participates in honor-band competitions, district, and state competitions.
  9. Arranges transportation, accommodations, and chaperones for out-of-town trips.
  10. Conducts fund raising projects for trip expenses.
  11. Establishes a band fund to pay for instrument repair and music library if necessary.
  12. Conducts after school sectional and practice sessions.
  13. Participates in faculty meetings and in-service training sessions.
  14. Implements the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching in all teaching-learning situations.
  15. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
  16. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  17. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
  18. Performs other duties as required.
