Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Microbiology Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in microbiological analysis, particularly in compliance with USP <61> Microbiological Examination of Nonsterile Products: Microbial Enumeration Tests and USP <62> Microbiological Examination of Nonsterile Products: Tests for Specified Microorganisms. This role involves conducting critical microbiological testing and analysis in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment to ensure the safety and efficacy of our client’s products.
Key Responsibilities:
- General duties include sterility testing (TAMC and TYMC testing), microbial limit testing, and microbial identification to support finished products, raw materials, and medical cannabis in a non-sterile pharmaceutical laboratory.
- Conduct microbiological GMP testing and analysis in accordance with USP <61> and USP <62> standards.
- Develop and validate microbiological methods and procedures.
- Perform microbial enumeration tests and tests for specified microorganisms on nonsterile pharmaceutical, medical cannabis, and medical cannabis-derived products.
- Perform routine cleaning maintenance and environmental monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and advancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, cannabis test development, and quality control processes.
- Document and report findings in a clear and concise manner, adhering to laboratory protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in the troubleshooting and resolution of microbiological issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the microbiology laboratory.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably in a pharmaceutical, cannabis testing, or other biotech environment.
- Thorough understanding of USP <61> and USP <62> guidelines and their application in a laboratory setting.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in microbiological techniques and instrumentation.
- Knowledge and experience using aseptic technique, autoclaves, gram staining.
- Overseeing and administering standard microbiology functions.
- Preparing fundamental functional reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
