Responsibilities
The Role
This position is responsible for the inspection and microbial testing of all raw materials for production. This includes reviews of C of A's and microbiological examination. Conducts the microbiological examination of all products produced at Metagenics Gig Harbor and contract manufacturers. Responsible for performing microbial assays on customer complaints and conducting environmental microbiological testing program.
Key Responsibilities
- Determination of specific tests to be performed on each raw material or product as it is received in the lab
- Preparation, culturing, and examination of samples for microbiological testing
- Interpretation of results of microbiological testing and accurate documentation of those results
- Probiotics enumeration and stability testing
- Preparation of product related microbiology reports to be used for the release of manufactured products
- Recognize and initiate OOS/Lab Failure documentation
- Organization and maintenance of data files including but not limited to all microbiological and environmental testing results, outside testing results and informational tables used for determination of test procedures
- Responsible for media and reagent preparation, QC and storage. Also responsible for receiving, QC and storage if purchased
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation in good operating condition and laboratory in clean, sanitary condition
- Maintain procedure, sample, QC and instrumentation logbooks
- Perform environmental monitoring of the manufacturing facility and present data to manager for review on routine basis

Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field
- 2-4 years similar experience
- Familiar with the manufacturing process and how QA/QC fits in
- Understanding of Microbiology laboratory procedures
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office programs
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and interpret results
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Flexible to coordinate timing of projects
- Able to work independently
Physical requirements/working conditions:
- Sits at a computer station, meeting table or work desk for more than two-thirds of each day
- Stands and walks to other stations and departments throughout the day
- Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment most of the day
- May stoop or crouch to access files or storage
- Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses
- Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and especially via the telephone
- Lifts up to 10 pounds regularly; lifts 25 pounds occasionally
- Exposed to noise levels typical of office environments
Compensation:
The current range for this role based out of Gig Harbor, WA is $29/hr - $33/hr.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
