BASIC FUNCTION: The Meter Technician is responsible for reading, testing and maintaining water meters according to detailed schedules and instructions with adherence to prescribed standards and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Customer Service Supervisor.
JOB SUMMARY:
1. Collect meter reading data on assigned commercial and residential water utility routes by vehicle or on foot and in all types of weather.
2. Serve as primary customer contact person in field. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, citizens and co-workers.
3. Maintains, tests and exchanges meters to ensure proper functioning.
4. Diagnose leaks at meters, water mains and service lines.
5. Clean out and maintain meter boxes free from debris and dirt.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.
TYPICAL DECISIONS: The incumbent is responsible for caring for and maintaining assigned equipment as well as identifying and reporting potential safety hazards.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: A minimum of one year related experience in an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
NOTE: Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.
