The purpose of the class is to read water meters and maintain accurate recording of water consumption to facilitate proper billing, and to perform related technical work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.
· Reads water meters on assigned route.
· Records water readings on hand-held computer.
· Cleans out meter boxes as needed; reports improperly installed or defective meters.
· Re-reads meters as requested.
· Connects and disconnects meters as ordered.
· Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
· Performs all work in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
· Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance from customers and the general public regarding areas of responsibility.
· Prepares and submits detailed work records and reports.
· Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, completing forms, etc.
· Attends training, meetings, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Essential Skills & Experience
· Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
· Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
· Requires over three months and up to and including six months.
· Demonstrate:

- Ability to speak compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
- Ability to plan effectively, set priorities, make sound decisions, and to manage/complete multi-faceted projects in conjunction with normal activity.

- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook[HD1] and custom applications.
- Strong ethical standards, reliability, professionalism, positive attitude, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
