Job Description
Metallurgical Technician will perform routine metallurgical tests on a variety of metals, accurately documenting test results in a report format, and supporting senior personnel as assigned.
Metallurgical Technician Responsibilities:
- Performs basic routine metallurgical evaluations including, but not limited to, Grain size, Microstructure, Macrostructure, Surface Contamination/Alpha Case, Decarburization, Intergranular Attack/Oxidation, and Microhardness.
- Conducts sample preparation, as necessary or assigned, consisting of sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and making fresh etchants.
- Capable of interpreting specifications, procedures, and engineering drawings including ASTM, ASME, AMS, AWS, ISO, SAE and PWA standards.
- Completes analyses with minimal direct supervision in an orderly and timely manner to ensure established deadlines are met.
- Maintains lab equipment and environment.
- Understands and complies with LTI’s QA and Safety Program at all times.
Metallurgical Technician Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university, and/or 3+ years of experience, OR High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 5+ years of experience.
- Computer skills required: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Laboratory Management Systems and Software.
- Possesses strong interpersonal, communication, multi-tasking, and technical writing skills.
- Mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, ability to work in a team environment, ability to multi-task and work intermittently in an up-tempo environment.
