We are seeking a senior-level Metal Fitting / FabricationProcess Engineer to join our facility in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area).
Under general direction, perform manufacturing engineering assignments with a focus on Metal Fitting and fabrication. This position requires a wide application of standard principles, theories and concepts in the field, plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.

Essential Functions
Responsible for providing hands on technical support for the metal fabricators on the factory floor supporting developmental and production Liquid rocket motor programs through the application of established manufacturing processes and engineering procedures:
- Prepare and maintain manufacturing process plans, provide training, and guidance to shop personnel assigned to the Metal Fitting and welding department in support of critical and complex rocket engine components.
- Assist in developing and implementing processing improvements using process variation management/statistical process control tools.
- Oversee and troubleshoot critical fabricating and Metal Fitting processes, including weld fit-ups ensuring cleanliness requirements and best practices are followed.
- Accurately report problems, solutions, and results, in concise written and oral communications.
- Collaborate with other engineers, subject matter experts, and technicians to solve production challenges.
- Experience working with Torch Weld Jigs (TWJ), setting weldments up for exact shrinkages to fit TWJ post weld.
- Familiarity working with electronic planning, drawings, and pertinent documents such as weld parameters.
- Experience using appropriate PPE.
- Using electronic planning and drawings.
Assignments may involve supporting theoretical and experimental investigations, and assisting in planning of resources to support production requirements.
50% - Develop, document, and implement fabrication and Metal Fitting practices for rocket engine components. Develop and document best practices to support production. Work closely with management, the bargaining unit work force, and engineering to solve on the shop floor fabrication and welding issues.
25% - Coach and mentor mechanics to ensure processes and instructions are understood. Review established Metal Fitting process instructions, monitor Fitting and Welding activities for compliance with established safe process instructions. Originate, prepare, and maintain detailed documentation (Standard Operating Procedures) for the safe manufacture of rocket motors and components. Lead cross-functional team members to interpret hardware processing requirements. Coordinate technical support to ensure processes meet or exceed drawing and specification requirements
15% - Develop strategies and implement actions to achieve quality, cost, and performance improvement goals. Assist in analysis and development of solutions to specific manufacturing problems utilizing manufacturing engineering techniques and data analyzes: such as specification of tooling and organization of work flow, prepare process flow diagrams, lead Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA), RRCA, process hazards analysis, job safety analysis and use systematic approach and tools to identify root causes and problem solving. Accurately report problems, solutions, and results, in concise written and oral communications. Use Lean manufacturing tools and techniques to continuously improve processes. Leading relentless root cause analysis investigations while striving for mistake-proof Level 1 corrective and preventive actions.
10% - Identifying, reporting, and eliminating unsafe acts & unsafe conditions within the work centers.
Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering/technical discipline and five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience should include demonstrated ability in manufacturing and the ability to interpret end item drawings. Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and statistical process control tools a plus.
Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful candidates will have direct shop floor level experience in metal fabrication and or assembly of aerospace components.
- Experience with surface finish & lapping application.
- Experience with metal working best practices.
- Experience with blending / polishing of welded surfaces
- Experience working with Torch Weld Jigs (TWJ) , setting weldments up for exact shrinkages to fit TWJ post weld preferred
- Must have a demonstrated ability to organize and complete projects, objectives, and tasks.
- Must be capable of working with a diverse team and collaborating in a cross-functional organization to deliver results.
- The ability to adapt in a dynamically changing environment
- Must be proficient with utilizing Microsoft Office software suite.
- Experience with cryogenic operations and experience with resistance welding preferred
- Experience working in a bargaining unit environment is also desired.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.

May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
Pay range for this position:
$83,000 - $115,000
