- Engage with individuals in various community settings, offering your experience as a peer to support others in one-on-one interactions and group discussions, alongside partner programming
- Facilitate groups of 8 to 12 in which individuals help each other identify personal strengths, interests, social relationships, hopes for the future, and sources of well-being, as well as learn new knowledge and skills that can support their recovery journey
- Coordinate meetings of interested individuals in planning the opening of a clubhouse in Galveston County, engaging in discussions about the clubhouse as well as decisions regarding opportunities and programming
- Support individuals in finding other community opportunities, resources, and destinations that match their own interests and hopes for the future
- Support individuals in becoming more comfortable with self-advocacy
- Support individuals in building personal skills and confidence through telling your own stories of recovering and moving forward in life
- Serve as a role model who shares personal strengths and skills as well as the message that recovery is possible
- Experience in working with a diverse and constantly changing population, including the ability to inspire action and growth within individuals overcoming the symptoms and stigma of mental illnesses
- facilitating groups (some group facilitation experience is highly desirable)
- learning about community opportunities, resources, and destinations
- using your own life experience to help others ? especially your experience in recovery and ability to self-advocate
- accessing low-cost transportation and supporting others in using these resources
- Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) certification OR
- Obtain certification within six months (Galveston County Clubhouse will consider reimbursement for obtaining this certification, after it has been achieved)
- Personal lived experience overcoming a significant life disruption due to a Mental Health condition. Must be at least 2 years recovered from this condition.
- Possession of a valid Driver License and clean driving record
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens
- Full-time permanent position
- $17.50 - $19.23 per hour ($36,400 - $40,000 annually) - your pay rate is based on experience doing the same/similar role
