Medical Technologist- Full Time

POSITION: MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

DEPARTMENT: LAB

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

SCHEDULE: 7 ON / 7 OFF, 12 HOUR SHIFTS, 7PM-7AM, NIGHTS

JOB SUMMARY: To provide specimen processing, test performance and results reporting that

are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the

incumbent’s education, training or experience and technical capabilities.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

• Responsible to the Laboratory Director

• Regular Contact with all hospital departments and the public

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Follow the laboratory procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Maintain records that demonstrate the proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
• Adhere to the laboratory quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
• Follow established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or immediately notify the Laboratory Director.
• Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
• All other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: Must possess an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology and be licensed in the State of Louisiana.

Work Experience: At least two years of experience required.

OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY: A Have exposure to blood borne pathogens.
