Job Description:
Position Overview:
Performs various chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Applies techniques used in the field of blood banking, hematology, serology, chemistry and morphological examinations. Records test results, quality control, and remedial action. Must be able to prioritize tasks rapidly and perform phlebotomy as needed.
Essential Functions:
a) Responsible for performance of laboratory procedures and reporting of test results; monitoring test analysis and specimen examinations.
b) Responsible for careful handling of chemicals and infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel: collection of blood and other specimens under aseptic conditions.
c) Responsible for care of expensive scientific laboratory and judicious use of materials.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Associate Degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training. Bachelors' degree preferred.
Training and Experience: Must have at least 3 months of training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. Training may include previous employment, on-site or as part of an education curriculum. Previous Ortho Vitros experience preferred.
Job Knowledge: Complete operational ability in all lab areas.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.
