Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist - Full Time (Day/Evening)

Under the general direction of the Senior Manager of Laboratory, the Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician performs, evaluates and reports results on specimens received for analysis. This position performs complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological tests, requiring significant analytical and independent judgment.

Add-on compensation for hourly positions rewards additional training and education.  Differentials apply for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual is based on hours worked and encompasses holiday, sick, and vacation time. Full time employees (80 hours per pay period) can accrue 23 8-hour PTO days per year, which increases with longevity. 

Position Details

Full Time

80 hours per pay period (two weeks)

Wage range: $25.00 - $37.50 DOE (Technician)

Wage range: $30.00 - $52.50 DOE (Scientist)

Laboratory Procedures

• Performs analysis, evaluates and reports results of clinical specimens.
• Ensures operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Performs quality control analysis and evaluates for validity.
• Answers questions pertaining to laboratory testing.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

Patient Care

• Utilizes age related concepts when communicating with patients and families, and obtaining blood or body fluid samples for analysis.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping information confidential.

Other

• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Effectively uses a microscope.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (Scientist) or Associate's Degree (Technician) in related health sciences at the time of hire.
• ASCP certified or equivalent or board eligible.
• Completed program of study at an accredited School of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
• AHA BLS certified within 30 days of hire and maintain while employed.
• Washington Department of Health Medical Assistant Phlebotomy license within 30 days of hire and maintained while employed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a critical access hospital.
