Position Summary:
The Medical Director, US Medical Affairs Nephrology is a senior leader within the Global Medical Affairs team, reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs Nephrology. As the subject matter expert and key member of the product teams, the successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of the therapeutic area, the clinical landscape, and the healthcare delivery setting and be able to connect their understanding to deepen Travere's overall nephrology strategy.
This individual will be responsible for scientific leadership across various Medical Affairs functions, including external engagements, scientific communications & publications, and evidence generation while also providing strategic and tactical support for Travere's nephrology portfolio. This role will be part of a team that drives the nephrology medical program including supporting the development of our Medical Affairs strategy for Travere nephrology assets in development and/or marketed products. This leader will partner with other key leaders across Travere, including but not limited to commercial, market access, and clinical development.
Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a medical subject matter expert for Travere's nephrology asset(s).
  • Advise on risks and opportunities based on the emerging science in rare kidney disease.
  • Maintain a deep scientific knowledge base on Travere products, target disease states and the competitive landscape, along with a solid understanding of the relevant physician communities and their treatment patterns.
  • Serve as an active contributor to the US KOL strategy.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including key opinion leaders (KOLs) based on existing relationships, investigators, medical societies, and advocacy organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Directors of National Account (DNAs) in clinical discussion with national & regional payer to support patient access.
  • Provide clinical and evidence-based views on the proposed direction for the scientific direction for internal teams.
  • Supports Lead Medical Director to build a bold scientific ambition for the nephrology Medical Affairs (MA) team to drive our nephrology asset's scientific and business strategies through strategic and tactical plans that are cross-functionally aligned.
  • Serve as a key internal contact/subject matter expert who keeps abreast of professional information and technology enabling themselves to effectively develop and communicate a long-term vision and plan for the nephrology MA team.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Senior leadership, commercial, clinical and nonclinical development, market access, business development, and corporate communications to provide scientific leadership and ensure alignment on medical strategies and core scientific communication points.
  • Represent Travere at external meetings including investigator meetings, scientific association meetings, payer engagements, advocacy meetings, etc.
  • Contribute to the training and development of key staff in Medical Affairs and commercial functions.
  • Work with collaborators and Travere colleagues to publish and disseminate relevant scientific information, teach, and educate on such matters.
  • Advise and participate in data generation discussions and implementation.
  • Support, advise, and execute Advisory Boards' purpose, objectives, and selection of advisors.
  • Support U.S. Medical Directors of monthly and quarterly reviews of US Medical Affairs activities, including field medical activities.
  • Provide research and practical expertise to ensure greater effectiveness, integration and adoption of our products into the clinical care system.
  • Support the team to identify and implement appropriate high-impact medical education projects and medical content development to support strategic objectives.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • MD required. Board Certified Nephrologist strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years relevant work experience. Experience within Medical Affairs in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Strong therapeutic area knowledge, considered a KOL in nephrology.
  • Strong understanding of drug development and commercialization concepts. Orphan diseases knowledge/experience preferred.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and manage complexity.
  • Ability to travel (ASN, ERA-EDTA, NKF, KOL symposiums, etc.) and manage a rigorous schedule which may require some evenings and weekend availability (anticipated travel up to 25%)
  • All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Compensation: Our competitive compensation package includes a combination of both cash compensation (base pay and short-term incentive) and long-term incentive compensation (company stock), designed to recognize, retain, and reward employees.
Target Base Pay Range:
$220,000.00 - $280,000.00
