Position: Medical Billing & Coding Specialist
Salary: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour (Starting salary depends on education, licensure, and years of experience)
Job Type: Full Time Hourly
Purpose:
The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and efficient processing of healthcare claims. Responsible for submitting claims to insurance providers and navigating the reimbursement process. With an up-to-date knowledge of coding standards and attention to detail, the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist contributes to the financial health of the organization by optimizing billing procedures and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
- Accurate preparation and submission of clean claims to medical insurances, government agencies, and private pay accounts (electronic and paper submissions).
- Monitoring unbilled report and ensuring timely filing of all claims.
- Checking the status of unpaid claims and collaborating with payors to resolve issues.
- Conducting claim inquiries and appeals.
- Handling payment posting.
- Preparing, reviewing, and sending client statements/invoices.
- Achieving maximum reimbursement for services provided.
- Collaborating with the Revenue Cycle Manager and Netsmart RCM team to troubleshoot billing and service entry errors.
- Working with program staff to address any billing-related concerns.
- Verifying financial eligibility for clients with Commercial/Medicaid/MC insurance.
- Staying informed on billing requirements from External Agencies, Medicaid, Medicare, and Commercial payors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Understanding of CPT coding, diagnosis codes & medical terminology
• Ability to interpret remittance advice
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Excel skills required
• Excellent time management & customer service skills
• Attention to detail
• Must be a team player
Minimum Requirements
• Minimum two years of Medical Billing experience
• Previous Experience with Kansas and/or Missouri Medicaid billing a plus
• Certified medical coder preferred
In addition to the above requirements, incumbent must:
- Complete Sanctuary training in a timely manner;
- Have a valid driver's license and proof of current vehicle insurance;
- Follow all agency policies;
- Be able to pass State Abuse, Neglect and criminal background checks;
- Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodation.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform a range of physical motions, but not limited to standing, walking and sitting for long periods of time; kneeling, squatting and stooping.
