Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Position Summary

Codes medical and dental encounters as patients and providers select Diagnosis and procedures through ICD10 or CPT and HCPCS.

Essential Duties & Functions

• Responsible for reviewing provider charges for accurate and complete CPT/ICD10/HCPCS coding from physician documentation.
• Ensuring coded services, provider charges, and medical record documentation meet appropriate guidelines.
• Ensuring procedures are billed accurately in compliance with all payers regulations for physician’s services
• Accepts assignments from management and maintain open communication with their manager to resolve quality and production issues.
• Maintains strict confidentiality regarding confidential conversations, documents, and files
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with efficiency in dealing with multiple facilities.
• Must demonstrate ability to work independently with minimum supervision in a team-oriented environment and interrelate well with individuals with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and needs.
• Ability to handle a large volume of project receiving and researching claims.
• Excellent computer skills, including Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training (minimum requirements)

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
• Working familiarity with the rules and regulation pertaining to the government/private/FQHC guidelines.
• Behavioral Health and/or OBGYN coding a plus

Required Years of Experience (minimum requirements)

• Minimum three years using ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCs or equivalency

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Must be proficient in medical terminology
• Must be proficient with all Microsoft programs
• Must be familiar with Epic EMR system
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
