Job Description
Granite State Pain Associates and ROAD To A Better Life in Merrimack, NH is currently seeking to fill a temporary Medical Assistant position. This position has a contract period of 12 weeks, however, there is potential for extension or permanent employment if another MA position becomes available within the company. The work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm with holidays and weekends off. Position may require travel to our other locations, as well. The candidate should be able to begin work within a few days of receiving an offer.
Job Summary: Provides clerical and clinical assistance to medical providers and acts as initial contact for patient concerns, prescription and prior authorization needs.
EssentialFunctions:
- Answer phones and manage triage
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms
- Schedule appointments as needed
- Coordinate care with hospitals, labs, pharmacies and other external medical practices within scope of practice
- Obtain and document patient’s vital signs, medical history and reason for visit
- Prepare the patient for necessary exam or procedure
- Collect urine and/or oral samples from patients following office protocol to include observed samples
- Tracking results
- Notify the provider of the patient’s arrival
- Assist provider with exam as necessary
- Submit medication refill requests to the provider
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications and imaging orders
- Stock and clean exam rooms and medical areas as needed
- Follow office protocols for test procedures and patient visit documentation
- Follow medical provider instructions with accuracy and timeliness
- Maintain a professional appearance
- Maintain a courteous, considerate and respectful demeanor with management, co-workers and patients
- Resolve interpersonal conflicts that arise in a professional manner
- Maintain consistent attendance, reliability and punctuality
- Accept constructive criticism and attempt to use it to improve personal practice
Required QualificationsEducation: Associate Degree in Medical Assisting or graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program. Experience: 1+ years
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Familiarity with Window based programs, use of EMRs, typing skills, ability to operate basic office equipment, ability to obtain and record vitals signs, ability to prepare prescriptions, customer service skills, time management skills, multi-tasking skills, familiar with medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, sterile technique, standard medical precautions, strong understanding of HIPAA laws and OSHA requirements/regulations in a healthcare setting, obtaining prior authorizations, ability to handle difficult situations, work under pressure and in fast paced environments, is self-motivated, takes initiative and is resourceful, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with management and co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program
Experience: 1+ years
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Prior Pain Management, family practice, orthopedic or addiction treatment experience preferred
