The Medical Assistant Supervisor ensures that all components of clinical and nursing care provided are individualized to meet the patient’s physiological and psychological developmental level and needs. They work with staff to develop, monitor, and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of CPO clinical care. They oversee and directly participate in all staff administrative and clinical functions, including but not limited to assisting with abortion care, miscarriage care, pregnancy and contraception counseling, clinical triage and result management, and medication administration. The Medical Assistant Supervisor facilitates all training needs and a positive interaction among staff, patients, and other departments. They fill in for staff, as necessary.
This position works closely with other practice managers in Women’s Health and Ambulatory Care Administration. The Medical Assistant Supervisor works to develop and implement UC Health system initiatives. Analyzes and communicates clinical and quality improvement data and makes recommendations for practice changes. They must have the ability to lead and prioritize projects and work well with staff, patients, providers, and students/trainees. The Medical Assistant Supervisor is a professional leadership role that functions with a high degree of initiative and diplomacy, which are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff and patients in a complex environment. They must be able to assess situations, prioritize workload, lead community outreach, and support practice growth. The Medical Assistant Supervisor actively engages in the local and national Family Planning and Abortion community and organizations, functions as clinic administrative lead for Ryan Program.
The Medical Assistant Supervisor will have direct managerial oversight of 3-4 clinical staff and provide general clinical support to a total of 10-12 staff and support 6-10 physicians at various sites. Provides support to 3-5 fellows, and administrative oversight of rotating 9-12 UCSF and Kaiser residents and medical students.
The Medical Assistant Supervisor will report up to the OBGYN Nurse Manager

Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of experience / training.
- Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant/Hospital Assistant in a medical practice
- Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic(s) / center(s). Strong knowledge of practice operations.
- In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
- Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations and problem solving with all levels of management, staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, and to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center patient care.
- Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
