Position Information
The Office of Student Health invites applicants to apply for a full-time, nonexempt, twelve-month, contractual with limited benefits.
The Medical Assistant provides assistance to medical personnel including greeting patients, taking vital signs, and performing procedures that facilitate patient care. This is an essential position in times of public health emergencies related to the campus.
Responsibilities
- Complete all tasks assigned by providers that help facilitate patient care. This
- includes but is not limited to: vital signs, screening medical questions, nebulizer treatments, giving vaccinations, distributing OTC medications under the supervision of a nurse, and follow-up calls to Assisting provider during physical exams and procedures.
- Performing point of care testing, phlebotomy and specimen collection, assisting the providers with basic routine tests, injections and procedures (Blood Glucose, etc.)
- Maintaining proper inventory (stocking) supplies in all examination rooms and ensuring all equipment is in proper working order.
- Equipment care - maintaining equipment and ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected.
- Administrative Assistance - answer phones, record information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Review immunization forms for completeness, and limited clerical functions as required.
- Assist staff with scheduling appointments, requesting medical information, test results, photocopying, filing and other tasks as assigned
- Maintain patient charts and ensure information is filed/scanned accurately
- Customer service - attentive to patient and visitor needs and inquiries, with a non-judgmental attitude and acute awareness to the comfort, safety, and confidentiality of patients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Successful completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three -five years performing a full range of medical support services in a medical setting.
- Work experience in an ambulatory health care facility.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- General knowledge of the principles of aseptic techniques and infection control including blood and body fluid precautions.
- General knowledge, skill and ability to administer medications, assist with treatments, and operate medical equipment.
- General knowledge of and ability to meet the requirements for compliance with confidentiality of records and communications regarding clients.
- Skill and ability to use aseptic and sterile techniques; to interact with the public, health care providers, agencies and facilities.
- Ability to perform extensive standing and walking; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to operate standard office equipment.
