Job Overview: As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting healthcare providers in delivering patient care in various medical settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practices. Your responsibilities will include both administrative and clinical tasks, aimed at ensuring efficient operations and quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Obtain and record vital signs, medical histories, and other pertinent patient information.
- Prepare patients for medical procedures, including explaining the procedure, positioning patients, and providing comfort measures.
- Perform basic medical procedures under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals, such as administering injections, EKGs, and wound care.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
- Conduct basic diagnostic tests, such as vision screening, urinalysis, and blood glucose monitoring.
- Assist with minor surgical procedures, including preparing surgical trays, sterilizing instruments, and providing intraoperative support.
- Educate patients on prescribed medications, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures, and manage patient flow within the medical facility.
- Greet patients, answer phone calls, and respond to inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR), including patient demographics, medical history, and treatment plans.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, process billing information, and collect payments as needed.
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow up on patient care as directed by healthcare providers.
- Manage medical supply inventory, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper storage and organization.
- Assist with administrative tasks, such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents, to support the smooth operation of the medical office.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program from an accredited institution.
- Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required.
- Strong clinical skills, including proficiency in taking vital signs, performing medical procedures, and assisting with patient care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team in a fast-paced environment.
