The Medical Assistant will help support our team of NPs, MDs, RNs, and Social Workers in scheduling, escalating issues, care coordination and community resources. This position requires exceptional telephonic skills, including high volume of telephonic outreach to engage patients into Population Health programs. The Medical Assistant will work within UCSD’s Home Program and support our Emergency Department to Home Program with scheduling and help providers with orders and communication. This position will be a hybrid of remote and in-office work.

This Medical Assistant will need to possess a strong background in having worked in a clinic, hospital, or nursing home setting, helping providers with orders and referrals and be able to gather an intake and have a sense of when to escalate any issues to an RN that may arise during the day. The Medical Assistant performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: scheduling of patient appointments and associated patient system screens; accurate billing; environmental care functions; equipment/supply management; and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. This position will support multiple providers per day and work with 20+ different providers per month. Additional coordination is needed to ensure patients have their follow up appointments scheduled in a timely manner. The position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. Previous experience with lab work, vital signs, medical terminology, medical record documentation, and patient interaction are critical to this role. Most of this work is telephonic but may involve home visits as needed. Other related duties as assigned.

While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position. The application has a few open-ended questions at the end. Please take time and thoughtful consideration when completing the application.
