Medical Assistant
This position helps support a busy Physical Medicine and Physical Therapy practice in Bethesda, MD that includes the lead Physiatrist MD, Physical Therapists and other complimentary modality staff. This position supports a variety of MA duties including provider and patient relations, rooming patients, fulfilling medical records requests, stocking and prepping exam rooms, and a team based spirit. The position requires good judgment, initiative, independent thinking and problem solving in a team-oriented environment.. Position involves extensive interaction with patients. Duties include:
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of a growing physical medicine practice and performance center, in both front and back office functions.
- Provide excellent patient service, including greeting patients, rooming patients, and assisting with minor in-office procedures.
- Organize and maintain medical records through EMR, and secure electronic data bases and file system
- Maintain, verify and update files in patient charts in an efficient, organized manner and ensure that all records are stored according to established policies
- Fulfill prescription requests and complete prior authorizations for new and existing prescriptions.
- Take vitals, review pre and post-operative instructions with patients.
- Prepare EMG and injectable medications.
- Prepare and assist physicians with PRP therapy, Radiofrequency Ablations, and minor procedures under fluoroscopic guidance.
- Interact with and coordinate activities across practice departments.
- Oversee inventory and ordering of medical supplies
- Work as part of a collaborative team within a professional environment
- Work collaboratively with the front desk to ensure smooth scheduling and timely patient care.
- Triage patient calls for pharmacy requests, test results, medical questions and concerns as directed by the physician; documenting outcomes in EHR.
- Assists in maintenance of all logs and records for OSHA/MOSHA.
- Adheres to and follows sterilization and disinfection practices throughout the facility.
- Adheres to bio-hazardous or “red bag” waste policy and procedure for proper disposal of biomedical waste.
- Enjoy interacting with diverse populations including, patients, visitors, medical staff and medical center personnel as well as vendors
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Must have all of the following: a high school diploma and at least 1 year of direct experience. 2 years of experience is preferred.
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant in the State of Maryland, in good standing.
- Possesses and utilizes excellent customer service skills, strong public relations skills, and exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and organized, possess clerical skills, and have the ability to interact effectively with doctors, referring doctors and staff, patients, vendors, peers, and management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with all levels of personnel including management, physicians, providers and staff
- Outstanding patient service skills, with a keen sense of customer satisfaction
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and communicate sensitive patient information, all the while providing a nurturing environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands with meticulous attention to detail
- Background in and command of demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of medical record-keeping and terminology
- Phlebotomy experience is a plus.
- Experience with EMR
- Certified Fluoroscopy Technician is a plus.
- Ability to interact with other departments in the practice and outside agencies while maintaining a calm and supportive atmosphere
- Capacity to address any and all problems that arise and conduct follow up to resolution.
- Experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and similar appointment scheduling application.
